Senior Manager of Accounting

Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Senior Manager of Accounting will be responsible for planning and helping drive the month-end close process and reporting functionality across the organization. Candidate will be responsible for assessing, creating and implementing operational improvements and streamlining existing processes. Candidate should be detailed oriented, have strong communication skills, foster collaboration and desire to be part of a team. Candidate should have the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects at once.

Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Operations:  Contributing to the month end close process and being responsible for areas such as, but not limited to, investments, department/clinical accruals, leases, and equity. Preparing timely reconciliations that are in compliance with GAAP.  Helping drive efficiencies to reduce the close timing. Prepare / oversee recurring activity such as reviewing reconciliations/journal entries, reviewing payment runs, preparing bi-weekly payrolls, and managing our employee T&E system.  Assist with technical accounting research and special projects when the need arises.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare departmental financial reports on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis, reviewing historical trends and comparing to budget to help identify any efficiencies and provide summarized variance explanations.  Work cross-functionally with FP&A and other departments.
  • Internal Controls: Evaluate and enhance internal controls and accounting procedures and work towards becoming more SOX compliant.  Create and update policies and process documents as needed.
  • Audit Coordination: Assist with preparation for annual audits and quarterly reviews, including interaction with the external auditors and tax consultants.  Assist with financial statement and footnote preparation.
  • Strategic Financial Initiatives: Identify efficiencies with the finance department by leveraging new tools and software.  Propose and lead the implementation of proposed tools (examples such as ADP Workforce Now, FloQast, Netsuite addons, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minimum 5-7 years of experience
  • Experience in Biotech/Life Sciences
  • CPA or candidate seeking CPA certification preferred
  • Broad knowledge of accounting principles (US GAAP)
  • Internal controls (SOX) experience
  • Strong systems skills; experience with top tier accounting/ ERP systems; proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to follow instructions for multiple projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as with other groups across the business
