Data Science is at the heart of Lyft’s products and decision-making. As the Senior Data Science Manager, you will work in a dynamic environment, where we embrace moving quickly to build the world’s best transportation. Data Scientists take on a variety of problems, ranging from shaping critical business decisions to building algorithms that power our business insights. We’re looking for a passionate, driven Data Scientist Manager to take on some of the most interesting and impactful problems and lead some of the best scientists in the industry. This role will be overseeing the teams on Lyft Business and Lyft Media. You will be working on one of the most profitable and fastest growing revenue centers in our company. We are the team that brings delightful ad experiences in the Lyft app and in out-of-home displays such as tablets mounted behind driver seats or on displays mounted on the top of the cars as well as serving the transportation needs of outside enterprises ranging from medical care providers to management consultancies and rental car companies. You will prioritize and create the analytics strategy, vision, and roadmap while ensuring that the team has all the necessary tools and infrastructure to perform their work. You will be responsible for building and executing an analytics roadmap, as well as empowering self-service analytics across the organization. In this role, you will also build critical relationships with Product, Engineering, Science, Operations leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure consistent delivery of what the organization and our partners need.

You’ll be managing data scientists, and also building relationships and partnering with product and operations teams. The ideal candidate can navigate complex technical topics, strategic problem solving, and team development to deliver business impact. Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of data scientists
  • Experience leading and managing teams of managers is preferred
  • Work with cross-functional partners in product, engineering, design, finance, and operations to achieve business goals
  • Prioritize and lead deep dives into our data to uncover new product and business opportunities
  • Prioritize and lead development of productized models to automate operational decision-making and drive operational productivity
  • Develop analytical frameworks, roadmaps, and metrics for the team and broader organization
  • Collaborate with other leaders and executives to build data-informed business strategy and product roadmaps
  • Serve as a champion of sound decision-making at all levels of the company

Experience:

  • Degree in a quantitative field like statistics, economics, applied math, operations research or engineering (advanced degrees are preferred) or relevant work experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on technical experience in a data science role or equivalent
  • 5+ years management experience building and leading data science teams
  • Track record of guiding teams through unstructured technical problems to deliver business impact
  • Skilled at managing cross-functional relationships and communicating with leadership across multiple teams
  • Willingness to collaborate and communicate with others to drive cross-team and cross-organization initiatives forward

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $200,000 - $250,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
