Responsibilities
- Use appropriate tools, including logical models of components and interfaces, to contribute to the development of network designs. Produce detailed component specifications and translate these into detailed low-level designs for implementation. Provide advice on technical aspects of enterprise networking and ensure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards, and practices (including security) are applied correctly
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of emerging and traditional network technologies and provide expert advice regarding their application. Supervise specialist consultancy and internal network engineering activities
- Take responsibility for the design, procurement, installation, upgrade, operation, control, maintenance, monitoring, and effective use of network infrastructure components. Ensure that operational problems are identified and resolved. Provide appropriate status and other reports to specialists, users, and managers. Ensure that operational procedures and working practices are current and fit for purpose
- Design and deploy first-of-a-kind infrastructures and tools for networks that meet business needs and consider target environment, performance, security requirements, and existing systems
- Translate high-level designs into low-level designs and produce detailed low-level designs and standard operating procedural (SOP) documentation
- Take responsibility for first-of-a-kind installation projects, providing effective team leadership, including information flow to and from the customer during project work. Monitor the effectiveness of installations and ensure that appropriate recommendations for change are made
- Design test cases and create test scripts and supporting data, working to the specifications provided. Interpret, execute, and record test cases in accordance with project test plans. Analyze and report test activities and results. Identify and report issues and risks
- Participate in and follow all governance processes, including those of the Engineering Review Council (ERC)
- Use the tools and techniques for specific areas of release and deployment activities. Administer the recording of activities, logging of results, and document technical activity undertaken
- Research and develop new Network Services and Standards for SD-WAN, WAN, ISP, and other network transports, including emerging network technologies
- Research and develop solutions that require integration of security, EUC, and network technologies
- Develop technical transformation plans, business cases, and Carrier Contract changes as needed to foster the adoption of new data transport technology
- Synthesize network technical, service management, and functional requirements specifications
- Integrate infrastructure from M&A activity into the centralized network tools and contracts
- Develop and manage all network service engineering plans and strategies
- Develop a long-range strategy for network equipment, networks, and tools
- Manage all documentation related to network infrastructure
- Maintain knowledge of applicable network technologies by reviewing technical literature and attending training
- Drive conversion of legacy and non-standard networks and services to the global Standard set of services
- Utilize common DevOps and CI/CD tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Jenkins Octopus Deploy, GitHub Enterprise, etc.
- Manages and assures all network ITIL processes are followed (e.g., Change, Request, Problem)
- Monitor network component capacity and initiate actions to resolve any shortfalls according to agreed procedures. Apply techniques to control the demand upon a particular network resource or service
- Use network management tools to determine network load and performance statistics
- Utilize system administration tools as required to manage, monitor, and maintain network systems
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of maintenance and installation work for first-of-a-kind deployments, including building and management of network systems and components in virtualized computing environments
- Implement agreed network changes and maintenance routines
- Identify operational problems and contribute to their resolution, checking that they are managed in accordance with agreed standards and procedures
- Provide reports and proposals for improvement to specialists, users, and managers
