About the job

Software engineers at Twilio are responsible for creating compelling experiences for developers and operators alike. You will work closely with Product and Design and be responsible for usability considerations as well as implementation of modern Web experiences available through our Console. 

The experiences you build will be relied upon by all of Twilio's customers every day, and you will continually expand and refine the experience to meet customers’ changing needs.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Build and maintain highly scalable microservices and create distributed systems.
  • Build and maintain high quality services and UI using modern technologies that work at scale.
  • Be part of a small, high-impact and hardworking engineering team. Show strong engagement in the team setting
  • Collaborating and brainstorming product ideas with product managers, design, and engineers.
  • Diagnose and debug customer reported issues.
  • Be data driven and opinionated.
  • Truly own the product you work on.  Be responsible for SLA, incident resolution, customer feedback and participate in blameless post-mortems to make our products better.

Required:

  • 5+  years of experience with server side technologies, including concepts like asynchronous programming, functional programming.
  • Experience creating backend microservices using languages like Java, Python or C#.
  • 3+ years of experience working with highly scalable large distributed systems, microservices, relational databases like MySQL, data pipeline systems, and frameworks to build high-performance RESTful web services.
  • 3+ years experience with the modern Web stack: notably React, Typescript, and Node.js. 
  • Well versed (and opinionated) on what makes a good REST API and UI components.
  • Experience working with high traffic, highly scalable large distributed systems and complex code bases.
  • Experience designing, building and supporting mission critical user-facing systems.
  • Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Knowledge of processes and engineering best practices in all phases of the software development life cycle.
  • A healthy ability to manage and resolve conflict - you have the ability to listen, present, and question effectively
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 5 years of experience with software development lifecycle and processes

Desired:

  • Figma, Buildkite and HEAP analytics

Location

This role will be remote in the US but is not eligible to be hired in the states of California, Connecticut, Pensilvania, New York, New Jersey Washington State.

Travel

We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

  • Based in Colorado or Washington D.C. : $135,920.00 - $169,900.00 USD 
  • Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $143,920.000 - $179,900USD.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $159,900.00- $199,900.00 USD.
  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
