We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work within the team that builds, monitors and maintains the high-volume data processing and storage platform at the heart of some of our core products.
Together with the other developers on the team and our product manager, you would build new platform functionality and optimise system performance to handle the billions of records we process each day.
What you’ll do:
- Work with our infrastructure and application teams to grow and evolve the core data processing and storage systems of our platform
- Work with the product manager and engineering lead in an agile team, translating requirements into technical solutions
- Build RESTful APIs in Java with Spring Framework and PostgreSQL to support the business logic of our applications
- Build high-volume data processing pipelines, full-text search and analytics APIs using Kafka, Lucene and Solr to support our core product functionality
- Monitor performance of our systems, propose and implement optimisations
- Help with hiring, training, onboarding and mentoring of team members
What you have:
- Extensive professional experience with Java
- Hands-on experience with SQL database design and implementation
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and build automation systems (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins CI)
- Experience working in horizontally scaled, data-intensive environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Great numerical and analytical skills
- Knowledge of service-oriented architecture, big data systems, and distributed computing
- Comfortable with Unix/Linux operating systems and command line environments
Nice to have:
- Professional experience with high-throughput data ingestion queuing/streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ etc.)
- Experience working with PostgreSQL in performance-sensitive deployments
- Knowledge of Lucene, Elasticsearch/Solr, NoSQL databases
- Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, GCP etc.
