ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Senior Graphic Designer, reporting to the Director of Design, collaborates closely with photographers, videographers, designers, and writers, and works with Product Management, UX, Tech, Merchandising and Marketing teams to make fun, elevated, compelling designs—all while fearlessly dreaming up big ideas. Day to day, this role will focus on crafting on-brand communications, across all our channels. Our work spans both digital (website, email marketing) and print (quarterly catalog, printed promotions, packaging).

A successful Senior Graphic Designer exhibits a passion for visual storytelling, branding, and experimentation, driving the Uncommon Goods brand forward through innovative design solutions. It is pivotal for this role to ensure that all aspects of a project are cohesive and well-executed while being flexible and collaborative with cross-functional departments.

This hybrid role works on-site at our waterfront Brooklyn location 2 days per week.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conceptualize and design multi-channel campaigns for catalog, homepage, social media, and email, including selecting appropriate photographs, illustrations, and design elements.
  • Collaborate with production designer, photo team, and copy team to design catalogs. Responsibilities include developing layouts, brainstorming photo direction, determining graphic treatments, and ensuring crop and type details are optimized.
  • Assist in branding projects by designing packaging, mailers, and logos.
  • Conceptualize and art direct photo shoots.
  • Produce and share multiple design and art solutions in response to creative briefs or project requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (marketing) and external vendors (printers) as necessary.
  • Research inspiration, stay updated on relevant trends, and monitor the competitive landscape.
  • Collaborate with other creative team members to ensure consistency across platforms and assets.
  • Establish strong relationships with cross-functional partners in product management, merchandising, and marketing to understand seasonal strategies and develop concepts, designs, and art direction accordingly.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve visual communication and design.
  • Work closely with the Director of Design to align designs with the Uncommon Goods visual brand.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 5+ years of design experience, with a background in e-commerce and retail considered a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design preferred, but extensive experience and a strong portfolio may suffice.
  • Demonstrates a high level of taste and visual aesthetics.
  • Proficient in typography, layout, form, and color.
  • Ability to give and receive honest and thoughtful feedback.
  • Immersed and knowledgeable in design trends, both current and past.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator); experience with Sketch is advantageous.
  • Ability to work efficiently, manage multiple projects, and contribute to a team effort while delivering on individual responsibilities.
  • Possesses an open, positive, and collaborative communication style, with a solution-oriented approach.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Strong desire to advance the Uncommon Goods visual brand.

This position's annual base salary range is $80k - $90k. This role is eligible for our annual performance bonus program and options.
