Senior Government Relations Manager, Italy - 12 Month FTC

The Government Relations team ensures Trainline contributes proactively to the public debate in policy areas relevant to the company and in finding business opportunities for the company in the public space.

You will contribute to this goal by supporting the development of ambitious policies that advance innovation in rail, mobility, competition and digital. As the first GR team member  locally in Italy, you will strengthen Trainline’s presence and establish solid communications channels with political, regulatory and media audiences on relevant legislative, regulatory and policy matters.  

Your responsibilities:  

  • Strenghten the company and GR team’s understanding of Italian political dynamics and policy developments that are relevant to our business objectives  
  • Develop Trainline’s network of contacts with Italian decision-makers. Identify opportunities for thought leadership, including events and written communications 
  • Represent Trainline in relevant fora, in coordination with the broder GR team and GR leadership  
  • Advise on strategy and contribute to the planning of Trainline’s GR work in Italy. Execute plans in cooordination with the GR team and GR leadership, and working closely with other functions  
  • Support the broader Trainline organization – including the PR, legal and commercial teams – in advancing important projects, business priorities or events 

We’re looking for a team player who can work autonomously but is able to fit seamlessly in a large organization. The ability to execute and manage complex projects are important skills for this role, which requires alignment with colleagues across the company.

Creative thinking and a good strategic eye are also necessary to engage effectively with our target audiences. You will have experience in government relations and policy, with a proven network of personal contacts in the, rail, mobility or tech industry. You’ll be used to working in a fast-paced environment and reacting quickly to changing political and business dynamics. 

Key attributes should include: 

  • At least 5 years experience in the field of Government relations, institutional/regulatory affairs and policy. Deep knowledge of the rail, mobility, transport and/or digital sectors in Italy 
  • Track record in engaging senior political, regulatory and media audiences. Experience with regulatory and regional entities a plus 
  • Great communication skills and experience with producing data-driven, high-quality content for political and regulatory audiences 
  • Experience working in a complex organization and a habit to work on cross-functional projects, coordinating efficiently with senior leaders, peers and junior colleagues 
  • Understanding of business dynamics, and an ability to adapt the government relations approach to changing commercial imperatives
