This is a broad role requiring strong hands-on accounting skills, as well as commercial awareness and understanding. This role is primarily responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the US financial accounts, covering the US Balance Sheet and P&L. This includes management reporting, month end duties, transactional accounting and financial reporting. The US Financial Accountant is also responsible for maintaining US state and local taxation compliance in good standing and will be the key contact for US banking accounts. The role requires regular liaison with Australian, US and Global stakeholders across multiple time zones and will also support other finance functions as needed. Reporting to the VP, Finance and Strategy, this role will focus on the accounting requirements of the North America Region, while also supporting the global finance business as necessary.
Financial Accounting / Month-end Close
- Responsible for the timely and accurate review of US operations vendor bills, credit card and expense reports
- Accountable for US division’s month-end schedule and comply strictly with month-end timetable
- US divisions P&L review with meaningful variance analysis to support US Commercial Finance’s division result review for monthly sign-off
- Timely completion of US balance sheet reconciliations, identify and follow up with any reconciling items and seek prompt resolution
- Other ad-hoc month-end tasks and duties as required.
Reporting / Analysis
- Assist Group Reporting Team in monthly management reporting and annual and half-year statutory reporting
- Key US contact for external audit of accounts in coordination of audit testing and reviews
- Assist Commercial Finance in annual budget and quarterly forecast working, play an active role in providing spending and trend analysis to stakeholders to track performance
- Other ad hoc statutory and management reporting as required.
Treasury
- Work with Group Financial Operations Manager and Payable team in properly managing the cash flows of the US operations
- Administration of the banking platforms and credit card facility in the US
- Assist in the US Treasury service project
- Assist in the cashflow forecast and group hedge analysis.
Payroll / Employee Benefit
- Review twice a month payroll, ensure data integrity and accuracy of payroll processing
- Complete payroll accounting for US operations including benefit billing, WHT, and PTO liabilities
- Assist in reviewing and reporting WHT on US non-cash benefit distributions.
Tax and Compliance
- Assist in reviewing customers’ sales tax exemptions during sales process
- Manage CSC relationship to handle to handle state and local compliance requirement
- Manage Avalara relationship to handle US states sales tax registration, submission and reporting
- Manage North America region tax registration and queries, ensuring all relevant tax payment schedules are properly maintained and managed
- Assist in liaising with US tax authorities and Group US tax service consultant in investigating and resolving all tax matters
- Assist with Group Finance and Legal in managing annual insurance renewal process
- Any other requests or projects as required.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting/business/commerce
- CA/CPA qualification
- 5 years plus experience in an accounting role
- IFRS experience International Financial Reporting)
- State sales tax and Payroll experience viewed favourably.
- Excellent time management skills; organised, composed and shows initiative
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Advanced Excel skills preferable
- Experience in using different accounting software is advantageous (NetSuite, Concur).
- Strong emotional intelligence, professional, high level of attention to detail, composed, positive and energetic, able to work autonomously and take initiative, ability to work in a fast paced, highly dynamic environment.
