Job Description 

As an Astera Labs Senior Field Applications Engineer, you will be part of a team that designs-in and supports Astera Labs’ Taurus (Ethernet) & Aries (PCIe/CXL) Smart Cable Modules in the world’s leading cloud service providers, server and network OEMs. In this role, you will need to identify and understand customer requirements, propose Astera Labs solutions that provide clear value to the customer and provide hands-on design-in support. You will drive innovation by listening to the customer requirements, working with our engineering teams to implement into the product roadmap and delivering the results back to the customer. 

Basic Qualifications 

  • Strong academic and technical background in electrical engineering or computer engineering. At minimum, a Bachelor’s in EE/CE is required, Master’s is preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Cloud service providers, server, or network OEM customers to design in complex SoC/silicon products for Server, Storage, and/or Networking applications. 
  • Customer-oriented, Goal-driven, Self-motivated, be able to work independently and be able to travel frequently to customer sites. 
  • Strong organization skills and ability to provide clear and condensed notes and actions. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Entrepreneurial, open-mind behavior and can-do attitude. Think and act with the customer in mind! 

Required Experience 

  • Expertise in AOC/AEC or Switch/NIC PHY layer, with experience in Retimers being a plus.
  • Familiarity with hardware specifications of pluggable modules such as QSFP-DD, OSFP, and/or CMIS.
  • Hands-on experience with NRZ/PAM4 SerDes protocols, including 100G/400G/800G Ethernet (25G and above), PCIe 5.0+, InfiniBand, Fibre Channel, etc.
  • Proven experience in system bring-up and debugging in customer environments.

Preferred Experience 

  • Knowledge of simulation/modeling, schematic capture, and PCB layout tools from Cadence, Altium and others etc. 
  • Familiar with Python for automating system validation/debug and link optimization. 
  • Development, support, and experience with PCIe ICs.
