About the role:
The Builders Tech team sits at the center of one of Hippo’s most important business groups, the Hippo Builder Insurance Agency. Through our technology enablement, the Hippo Builder Insurance Agency partners with many of the largest new home construction companies in America to provide the best insurance products to new home buyers. We do this by bringing our engineering and product skills into direct collaboration with business leaders, identifying opportunities to improve customer experiences and conversion, agent operational efficiencies, and maximizing the value of partner interactions and integrations.
As the Senior Engineering Manager for the Builders Tech team, you’ll lead a group of talented, passionate software engineers. You’ll exert technical leadership by investing in their individual growth, managing the team operations, and participating in their day-to-day work. You’ll partner closely with multiple Product Managers to craft and maintain a strong vision for our software products, evaluating business impact and technical tradeoffs to maximize the Hippo Builder Insurance Agency’s profitability and growth.
Job description:
- Lead a team of eight engineers that is responsible for one of Hippo’s differentiating sales channels.
- Mentor the many senior and junior engineers, developing them for higher impact and teamwork.
- Manage the team’s project roadmap alongside talented Product Managers, ensuring the right balance of technical excellence, agility, and user benefit.
- Work with, and influence, cross-functional stakeholders within Hippo across Sales, Retention, UX Design, QA, and Finance.
- With a data-driven approach, show technical leadership, focusing on excellent execution and high-quality software delivery.
- Work with teams in our global locations across the US and Poland.
Job requirements:
- Relevant work experience in software development.
- Experience in people management, leading one or more teams successfully.
- Knowledge of communicating clearly, handling escalations, and ensuring continuous progress.
- A deep appreciation for Product as partners and co-owners of our software products.
- A relentless focus on end-users and the creation of customer-centric solutions.
- Proven ability to build teams, develop individuals, and influence cross-functional teams and senior management.
- Adaptability to expand the scope of work or transition to other areas of impact within a fast-moving scale-up environment.
- High level of technical proficiency with some of Hippo’s tech stack (Javascript/Node.js, React, Python).
- Proficiency in algorithms, data structures, and systems design.
- Experience working with database systems, particularly PostgreSQL and BigQuery.
