What’s the role?

Etsy is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Security Operations team within the Security and Privacy group. This group of teams plays a pivotal role in protecting and responding to threats to our data, applications, systems, and infrastructure. 

Your leadership will ensure that our approach to detection and response remains adaptive, scalable, and fortified, ready to accommodate the evolving needs of our business sectors. You will be responsible for key areas of the security program while collaborating with other security and engineering leaders, compliance, legal, HR, and more cross functional teams. 

This is a full-time position reporting to the Sr. Director of Security and Privacy and the base salary range will be 230,000 USD - 299,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?

  • You will be responsible for building and managing a team of highly effective engineers and analysts and serve as their coach, mentor, and advocate. 

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of an ambitious strategy, roadmap and OKRs for Detection, Response, and Corporate Security.  

  • Establish, improve, and maintain workflows, policies and procedures for all aspects of security operations, with a focus on threat modeling, threat hunting, monitoring, detection, and incident response.

  • Manage response to security incidents, providing leadership and coordination. 

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of security tools and technologies. 

  • Work cross functionally with a variety of internal departments including Engineering, Legal, HR, Compliance, and more to develop cross-departmental investigation and response capabilities. 

  • Support the development of automation to scale the capabilities of your team. 

  • Stay connected to the security community, keeping up to date on trends, threats, and technology to enhance our security posture

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • Accumulated 7+ years of experience in Information Security and relevant security domains

  • A minimum of 3 years in a people management role with track record of growing talent and leading high-performance teams

  • Strong technical background in detection and response, threat intelligence, and security operations

  • Deep experience with suite of D&R tooling including SIEM, TIP, fleet management, and AV solutions

  • Experience securing cloud based infrastructures 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; calm under pressure
