Our AI Compute Platforms group at Cruise develops infrastructure tailored to the unique needs of AI innovation, supporting a range of use cases across Perception, Planning, Data Science, and other teams. We enable scalable and efficient ML experimentation, boost the velocity of ML engineers, and explore cutting-edge ML techniques. Our infrastructure encompasses AI validation for simulation workloads and compute resources and framework support for ML training. Additionally, we provide an Orchestration platform that automates ML workflows across various infrastructures, enhancing MLE velocity. Together, these tools and systems empower Cruise to tackle self-driving challenges and accelerate our commercialization efforts.
The Engineering Manager II will lead a scaling organization, ML Compute team to achieve its mission while developing long-term vision and execution strategies across Cruise AI. This leadership role will ensure that we have a step function change in our product offering to support the scale we are anticipating. The leader will communicate their vision and strategies, design the org structure to support effective and efficient execution, and build partnerships across multi-functional groups and customers.
What you’ll be doing:
Lead and grow multiple teams of engineers within the ML Compute team
Ensure org health and structure are optimal for smooth execution of the our goals
Ensure better engineering best practices are adopted and followed and the quality of the product offerings are at a high bar
Drive strategic planning, vision setting and establishing scalable processes for execution
Build and retain world-class engineering teams through mentorship and career development
Work with teams across Cruise to foster a collaborative culture of testing, safety, and documentation
Pursue transformative technologies that enable us to support scaling and bring affordable productivity to bend the cost curve while driving significant change for ML engineering productivity
Serve as an embodiment of our values
Invest heavily in recruiting, identifying opportunities for external engagement to improve the Cruise engineering brand

What you must have:
2-4 years of management experience
BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research or other technical field
Prior experience managing, leading, and growing multiple teams and building strong organizations.
Proven track record of shipping production-quality software for mission-critical or complex software products
Experience managing teams and initiatives in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated experience thinking strategically with analytical and problem-solving experience
Prior experience with ML Platforms, Kubernetes etc is a bonus
The salary range for this position is $180,200 - $265,000. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
