The Role
The Senior Engineer, Software Safety position will report to the Director, Embedded & Software Safety and support the creation of reliable, safety-critical software that monitors and controls the vehicle. This position requires exceptional software engineering skills, understanding of the full development life cycle, attention to detail, and ability to learn in unstructured environments.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and delivery of application-level safety mechanisms
- Solve complex system safety problems with elegant solutions and apply judgment and experience to balance trade-offs between competing interests
- Develop/document software in C and C++ through all phases of the development lifecycle: concept, requirements, design, architecture, implementation, unit test, integration (HIL), and vehicle level system evaluation
- Play a significant role in mentoring and educating the team and organization on software & system safety best practices, processes and tools
- Contribute generally to the growth and success of the Company and the building of a vibrant culture focused on the responsible deployment of zero-emission autonomous vehicle technology
- While this is an accurate reflection of the position, Outrider reserves the right to require additional/different tasks to be performed as needed
Required Qualifications
- Experience developing software for autonomous vehicles or mobile robots
- Significant experience developing application software in C and Modern C++
- Experience working with ROS or ROS2
- Experience developing safety significant application software
- Excellence at creating/documenting software requirements and architecture designs
- Demonstrated strong leadership, people skills and cross-functional collaboration
- Excellent understanding of the software development life cycle
- Experience with Git
- Background developing software in a Linux environment
Ideal Qualifications
- Professional experience using perception sensors (e.g RADARs, LIDARs, cameras…) for safety applications
- Familiarity with functional safety specifications, including ISO 26262 and IEC 61508
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS), CAN, and Ethernet
- Familiarity with Python
- Familiarity with vehicle modeling and motion planning techniques
- Familiarity with Software Security
- Master’s degree in computer science or computer engineering
