NielsenIQ Client Portal Platforms resides within the NielsenIQ Enterprise Application IT group, developing and supporting a variety of Nielsen client-facing application platforms and servers, including the NielsenIQ Client Portal and NielsenIQ Answers Portal. The NielsenIQ Client Portal is a key delivery mechanism for NielsenIQ, integrating with over 100 Nielsen products and used by 98% of all NielsenIQ clients to access products and deliveries. This area of our organization is experiencing rapid growth with new products, partnerships and adoption driving the need to expand our global footprint, our platform's capabilities and our team!
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
The Senior DevOps Specialist will be a core member of the NielsenIQ Client Portal team. The team has developed a new enterprise client portal and needs an experienced DevOps Specialist who can work with the team to automate the infrastructure provisioning and code deployments of our modern, scalable components across the web application stack. The team is using new and interesting technologies and is looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer who has a passion for learning, solving complex problems and delivering great quality.
As a Developer/Site Reliability Engineer, you will:
- Ensure service uptime and performance across our on-premise and cloud systems
- Design and implement for automation, observability, and growth
- Configure new service infrastructure and upgrade existing services
- Help other departments leverage our shared services, including centralized logging, monitoring, and CI/CD services.
- Research new technology and run experiments to overcome issues and plan for future demand
- Develop, automate, operate, and advance solutions that enhance the developer experience, drive Public Cloud adoption, improve software operations, and mature CI/CD pipelines.
- Increased automation and self-service improve efficiency and advance methods to provision, build, deploy, and run applications (Blue/Green, Canary, Monitoring/Alerting, Infrastructure as code, etc.).
- Cloud Provisioning / Infrastructure setup (cloud configuration, load balance points, firewall rules, SSL certificates, security configuration, etc.)
- Platform support - Monitor and support production infrastructure, help debug issues in all environments.
- Technical leadership - help ensure our technologies, processes, patterns, and standards continue to evolve.
- Work across teams to reduce organizational silos.
- Strong experience with on-prem architectures, middleware and Unix admin support.
- Ability to function effectively under pressure in an environment of rapid change and complex requirements.
- Must be organized, self-motivated and goal oriented with a demonstrated record of initiative, adaptability and decisiveness.
- Analytical problem solver with strong communication (oral and written) and stakeholder management skills
- Performs with a strong sense of professionalism and tact. Must be able to communicate effectively to IT and Business stakeholders
- Proven ability to seek out and solve problems; go beyond the obvious to gain insight into areas which have broader impact or dependency on the Client Portal systems
We are looking for driven, motivated candidates who:
- Understand and can diagnose problems across the entire stack: network, server, operating system, and application
- Have scripting or java programming experience
- Have used configuration management tools to deploy and maintain services
- Enjoy working with a team to accomplish interesting technical challenges
- Engineer with a strong sense of curiosity about technology and a desire to learn and grow
- Should have hands-on experience operating as a Sr DevOps or SRE (Site Reliability Engineer) for the last 5 years
- 8 years of IT experience desired
- Solid DevOps background, coaching experience a plus
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 5-8 years' experience in enterprise web deployment and DevOps support
- Experience with some combination of the following Cloud technologies:
- Strong experience with DevOps Tools: Jenkins, CI/CD, Github, Docker & Kubernetes
- Automated infrastructure provisioning with Azure Resource Manager (ARM) and Terraform
- Cloud-based infrastructure providers like Azure (preferred) or AWS
- Monitoring health of overall system, individual clusters, individual servers and individual API calls with Datadog or similar
- Cloud-oriented tools, techniques and concepts like containerization, Microservices, SaaS and PaaS
- Strong awareness of granular, service-oriented back-end architectures Advanced experience with Microsoft Azure Administration
- Exposure to MS SQL or similar
- Shell, Bash Scripting with a mindset to automate processes and improve efficiency
Required Skills:
- Building, Documenting and Implementing remediation strategies to improve incident management and avoid future occurrences
- Ability to communicate technical design and solutions within team-focused atmosphere
- Previous experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Able to provide support and participate in rotating on-call coverage for a 24x7 system
- Strong troubleshooting skills taking initiative to return systems to operational status and determine root cause analysis along with mitigations steps for all incidents.
- Strong Written and Oral Communication Skills
- Technical Skills: Azure, Kubernetes, GitHub, Jenkins, Terraform, Helm, Docker, Datadog
- Exposure to RDBMS database systems
