Why this role is important: 

Our team is expanding, and we need a dedicated Electrical Engineer with a specialty in electronics applied to opto-electronics system interfacing. This position is key to maintaining momentum and achieving our strategic goals in the development of cutting-edge communication technologies. This position will report to our Senior Photonics Engineer and will be based in our Toulouse, France office.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop PCBA requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.  
  • Leading the design, development, and testing of electronic systems for the project, including laser drivers and receivers, power supplies, TIAs, filters and high speed DACs/ADCs, ensuring all components meet required specifications and performance standards. 
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer. 
  • PCBA design verification testing and system integration testing. 
  • Applying your electronics expertise to develop, implement, and optimize systems, while also integrating RF knowledge into the design and troubleshooting processes. 
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of electronic systems with other project components. 
  • Conducting detailed analysis and testing of electronics, identifying potential issues and implementing effective solutions. 
  • Documenting design processes, test results, and providing comprehensive reports to support project milestones and decision-making. 
  • Contributing to the assessment and selection of new team members, leveraging the expertise of current team leads to identify the best candidates. 
  • Staying updated with the latest advancements in electronics and RF technologies to continuously improve systems. 

What you bring to this role:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a strong background in high speed electronics applied to opto-electronics communications system.
  • 5+ years of experience in electronics circuit design, analysis, simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing.  
  • Proven experience in the design, development, and testing of electronic systems, preferably in the context of communication technologies or related industries. 
  • Proficiency performing circuit analyses in signal integrity tools (SPICE) 
  • Proficiency in PCB design and layout tools (Altium Designer preferred). 
  • Proficiency with electronic lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering iron, etc. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex electronic and RF systems.  
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills to effectively share insights, test results, and collaborate with team members. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. 
  • A proactive and innovative approach, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement in the field of electronics and RF technologies. 
  • Eagerness to leverage the expertise of senior team members to ensure a smooth transition and sustained project success. 

Bonus points:

  • Experience with optical comms system design, including laser driver and low-noise optoelectronics components front-end 
  • Experience designing for space environments including radiation impacts and mitigation. 
  • C/C++ or Python skills
