The Senior Director, EMEA Accounting, will play a key leadership role by overseeing the accounting and payroll functions across the EMEA region, as well as provide guidance where necessary to global accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue and tax teams where appropriate. This role drives the EMEA monthly financial close process, ensures compliance with US GAAP and local GAAP (where required), and maintains alignment with global accounting policies. The successful candidate will lead and mentor a diverse team, foster a culture of collaboration, and work closely with the AMER Senior Director and global VP Corporate Controller (amongst others) to ensure consistent application of processes, reviews, and controls across regions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage the monthly financial close process for the EMEA region, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and compliance with US GAAP and local accounting standards.
- Lead the preparation and review of detailed flux analysis of all general ledger accounts ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
- Lead the team in preparation of high-quality monthly account reconciliations; responsible for review and signoff of these reconciliations.
- Develop and implement regional accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency, compliance, and alignment with global standards.
- Assist in building a robust internal control environment, including the implementation and execution of internal control activities, in accordance with SOX compliance.
- Manage all activities related to preparing and issuing statutory financial statements for EMEA subsidiaries, coordinating with audit firms to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Oversee the payroll function across all EMEA locations, ensuring accurate and timely processing and full compliance with local labor laws and regulations.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including FP&A, HR, Legal, and the AMER Senior Director, to support business objectives and ensure consistent application of US GAAP.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in EMEA accounting and payroll operations.
- Work closely to support the Global Tax team on Corporate Tax, VAT, and WHT, where appropriate, including communicating with 3rd party service providers where necessary
Success profile:
- Bachelor's degree and qualified Chartered Accountant or equivalent designation required
- 10+ years of experience with GL accounting and reporting; experience working for US-based companies is highly appreciated
- Experience in a similar role within the EMEA region for a multinational corporation is required
- Proven experience building, developing, and mentoring a diverse, high-performing team in multiple locations
- Full proficiency in the application of US GAAP, as well as various local GAAP (i.e., IFRS)
- Proven track record in assessing, developing, and implementing internal controls for SOX compliance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Proficiency in financial (and other) systems, preferably in NetSuite, Floqast and Workday
