The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc. (MBRDNA) is seeking a Sr Development Engineer, Navigation to join the US Experience team. This is a full-time, exempt position at the MBRDNA regional office in Long Beach, CA.

The US Experience team drives to establish Mercedes-Benz as a technology leader in the US luxury segment by translating the combined One Voice US strategy to customers in impactful propositions that enhance the customer experience and create market pull. Our goal is to deliver research and broad knowledge that can influence and drive innovation in the US market in terms of improved vehicle features at different touch points throughout the customer journey.

The Sr. Development Engineer will serve as the lead Navigation engineer to support Telematics Projects in regards to testing, validation, and verification of telematics component development, more specifically related to Navigation, Traffic, Connected Navigation services and EV Routing ensuring high maturity, on-time delivery, and overall system qualification for North American vehicles.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Fully responsible for the testing activities, including project management related tasks as needed, more specifically related to Navigation and Traffic applications.
  • Supports the navigation testing team from Mercedes-Benz AG, as well as all departments within MBRDNA as the subject matter expert.
  • Communicates and coordinates with senior internal and external teams in own area of expertise.
  • Ability to work independently and without regular management support to determine tasks priorities and focus.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting testing locations, methods and techniques related to Navigation & Traffic application test plans and test drives.
  • Regularly takes initiative to identify, communicate, and execute high-impact changes or improvements for the US market.
  • Participates in regular testing and reports all defects found with detailed documentation and traces and follow up with retests and defect verification.
  • Manages and tracks defects resulting from testing events.
  • Instruct and mentor junior employees as needed.
  • Travel time is required: Approximately 1/4 of Navigation test drives will be executed outside of the state of California.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering consider; Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience; telematics testing.
  • Experience in the development or validation of embedded systems in the automotive or consumer electronics industries, or similar experience.
  • Ability to recognize risks in telematics development and use this information to prioritize tasks, more specifically related to Navigation and Traffic applications.
  • Ability to manage test plans, determine testing locations, and execute test drives for Navigation and Traffic applications successfully.
  • Good communication skills including on technical subjects.
  • Works independently with limited oversight.
  • Valid US Driver License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Automotive OEM or Tier1 supplier work experience.
  • Experience with embedded software and automotive solutions.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
  • Experience with OEM or Aftermarket Navigation system testing or development.

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $109,100 - $136,300.
