SUMMARY:
Little, Brown is seeking a Senior Designer and will report to the Executive Art Director. Applicant must be mature, highly organized, efficient, conscientious, and possess the ability to multi-task. The Senior Designer will work in a highly creative, friendly and teamwork-oriented art department and will interact heavily with art directors, designers, editorial, managing editorial, publicity, production and marketing departments to ensure timely workflow, department deadlines and interdepartmental requests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Handle design and manage the routing of all jacket/cover mechanicals of mass market books for high profile bestselling author at Little, Brown.
- Prepare all mechanicals for production (a solid understanding or experience with prepress is a major plus).
- Handle design and corrections of book reprints as requested.
- Offer strong support to the Executive Art Director through clerical and administrative tasks, which may include purchasing rights, processing invoices, preparing art contracts, uploading covers into a database, organizing art, sending packages and ordering supplies.
- Handle queries and provide materials as needed for other departments, such as Editorial, Marketing, and Production.
- Help prepare for and attend weekly jacket meetings. Attend weekly Production meetings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- 4-5 year of experience in publishing, design, or related field. Book cover design experience preferred.
- Must be proficient with the Mac operating system—solid knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- The ideal candidate should be very well-organized, attentive to detail, have the ability to juggle multiple projects, and be comfortable with both administrative duties as well as more creative tasks
- Strong communication skills required.
Please note our current hybrid model is two days per week in the office. Effective in January 2025, HBG’s hybrid model will be 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.

The compensation range for this position is $67,000 - $72,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
