About The Role:

Manifold is looking for a Sr. Counsel to join us as the second in-house Legal team member to provide legal business partnership and support on a broad range of areas including commercial contracts, privacy and product.  This role is ideal for a solution-oriented legal professional committed to solving for the customer and excited about building for scale and growth at a mission-driven early stage company. The ideal candidate has 6+ years of on-point in-house legal experience, thrives in a fast-paced growth environment, and has a proven ability to collaborate and build trust with cross-functional teammates.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner cross-functionally with a broad range of stakeholders, including Sales, Customer Delivery, Product, Engineering, Finance, and others, to provide legal counsel and support
  • Provide collaborative leadership with a keen understanding of business objectives and hurdles, while driving strategic solutions and evolution
  • Structure, draft, negotiate, and review a broad range of commercial contracts, which may include, SaaS agreements, data and technology licensing agreements, business associate agreements, data protection agreements, non-disclosure agreements and various vendor, partner, supplier, marketing and other commercial agreements
  • Provide legal analyses of applicable laws, regulations, and industry guidance
  • Educate and develop training for a growing cross-functional team on relevant legal issues, such as data privacy
  • Build for velocity and scale, which might include the development of standard templates and playbooks, as well as implementing new systems and processes
  • Advise business stakeholders on various legal issues, which will include identifying, managing, and communicating risks and opportunities to a curious and empowered team
  • Develop strong, trusted advisor relationships

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally gained in-house at a technology company
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and current member in good standing with MA, CA, NY or other U.S. State bar
  • Experience working with product and engineering teams and managing data privacy and security issues, with open source experience as a plus
  • Ability to structure, draft, and negotiate an array of commercial contracts, ideally independently
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills generally, and adept at executive communications
  • Proven track record for building trusted advisory relationships and providing entrepreneurial, pragmatic, business-oriented and balanced advice
  • Skilled at and enjoys analytical thinking, navigating complex challenges, agile decision making and driving results
  • Strong ability to handle handle a broad range of legal matters and work efficiently and effectively in a high-volume and fast-paced environment
