Reporting to the Head of Corporate Finance, you’ll work across the full range of Corporate Finance functions, investing most of your time in financial modelling, capital project evaluation, investment analysis and mergers and acquisition, as well as contributing to projects to improve our BAU systems and efficiency.
There’s no “typical day” we can describe. Part of a humming team of 10, your mahi will be varied and exciting, leading workstreams that drive decision-making through robust analysis, connecting teams and pieces of work across Contact in line with our strategy, and ultimately helping bring our vision to life.
Ko wai koe | About you
In the words of the guy who could be your new boss, good Corporate Finance is art + science. To nail this role, you’ll need a little creativity and magic as well as the technical competencies you already know about, all of which you’ve developed over years of experience in a similar role. You have refined your own consultative style and know how to craft business cases that really connect with people. You can influence and build rapport with ease – the whole relationship side of things comes naturally for you. You thrive in dynamic conversation and back your great verbal skills up with written comms that are just as good. You’re well used to writing reports and business cases and take care to deliver them with just the right level of detail and a polished look.
You have developed this level of professionalism over years of hard-earned experience, starting with study toward your university qualification (in Accounting, Finance or Economics), all the way through to now, where you’ve worked a fair bit of time in corporate finance and have a high degree of capability in financial modelling, project evaluation, investment analysis, and M&A. You get a kick out of researching and evaluating data and are comfortable working independently, but also enjoy bouncing off of peers and working collaboratively.
It would be great if you’ve worked in the Energy sector before, but we’re happy to provide training on the markets and would love to see a variety of backgrounds. If you have an interest in data, even better – there’s real opportunity to get stuck into that side of things, particularly on the commodity risk side.
Most of the Corporate Finance team are based in Wellington and work 3-4 days a week in our head office there (the rest at home), so that would be the place to be if you enjoy regular in-person team time, however this role can be fully remote and we’re open to applications from all over Aotearoa. (You might be interested to know we have a gorgeous new office in Commercial Bay, Auckland, too.)
Contact is not a place you’ll stagnate. We are growing and offer superb learning and development opportunities along with a bunch of other perks like free health insurance cover, better-than-your-average leave, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, a trail-blazing parental leave policy, discounts on Contact Energy products, and more.
Please note, only candidates with the right to live and work in New Zealand will be considered for this role.
Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet 60% of the criteria, women and those in underrepresented groups tend to only apply if they tick every box. We're not about box ticking, so if you think you have what it takes but don't meet everything stated above, please still get in touch. We'd love to kōrero.
