Senior Corporate Counsel

The Senior Corporate Counsel will report to the General Counsel and must have strong leadership skills, be a thoughtful problem solver and a trusted business partner for the team. The position is responsible for providing legal advice and expertise and support in all areas of law affecting our international business. This position is also responsible for coordinating activities related to data privacy and security, legal contracts associated with data privacy and security, including negotiation of Data Processing Agreements, new contracts, interpretation of and compliance with active contracts and implementation and oversight of the company's contract management system and security audits.   

 

This position can be based out of Redwood City, San Francisco, or Los Angeles

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts across all functional areas, including involvement with commercial agreements, marketing agreements, employment related agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other contracts that arise
  • Advise teams on compliance with the terms of active contracts, with the ability to interpret and discuss complex legal concepts in a pragmatic way that results in actionable business advice. 
  • Assist with maintaining the global privacy program and updating the company’s current privacy program and processes
  • Assist in managing our compliance with global privacy laws and regulations
  • Assist with external audits and/or regulatory inquiries involving privacy or information security
  • Provide privacy and data security subject-matter expertise and guidance to company including people ops, marketing, finance and sales, and engineering teams.
  • Remain up-to-date on relevant privacy, data security, and consumer protection laws and regulations, industry approaches to privacy program management, and on privacy and security technological developments and evolving industry standards to provide an ongoing ability to provide sound compliance advice.
  • Follow and implement department processes to maintain transparency of legal review and negotiation for internal stakeholders and track status of current contracts. 
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure contracts align with those needs. 
  • Identify risks and efficiently communicate those risks to internal stakeholders for discussion and resolution. 
  • Assist in training and guiding business teams in the use of contract templates, processes, and best practices. 

 

Desired skills and abilities

  • Law degree and current license to practice in home country, preferably with IAPP/other privacy certification
  • 4+ years of experience practicing law in home country gained in a law firm and/or in-house, privacy / data protection law experience a plus
  • In house experience in a multinational company, preferably in the tech space, preferred
  • Experience with contracts 
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues
  • Has an ability to provide business-oriented legal advice
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the organization’s legal department and across all businesses
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and a self-starter with strong work ethic, and an ability to prioritize and manage projects to completion with minimal direction
  • Common sense and sound business judgment 

Liftoff provides employees a total compensation package of competitive market salaries, equity, health and wellness stipends, medical benefits associated with your country of residence. The base compensation will vary based on location, experience as well as level. 

Liftoff offers all employees a full compensation package that includes equity and health/vision/dental benefits associated with your country of residence. Base compensation will vary based on candidate location and experience. The following are our base salary ranges for multiple levels:


SF Bay Area, Los Angeles: $175,000 - $200,000

Liftoff's compensation strategy includes competitive market rate along with equity and benefits and perks that will give our employees what they need to do their best work. In order to ensure teams are compensated fairly for the work performed, we map out specific levels and take into consideration the cost of labor within each location.
