About the role
AFRY is looking to add talent to its power markets and transaction advisory team in Texas (The Woodlands / Houston). The role is within the management consulting team focusing on energy transition. The selected individual will serve as a member of the market analysis and/or transaction advisory team responsible for developing and maintaining the commodity price forecast for North America or supporting energy transactions on the buy and sell sides. We are looking for individuals with hands-on experience in commercial production cost models or working on transactions.
Your responsibilities

- Control and challenge the obtained results, to validate them
- Support AFRY’s market analysis, transaction advisory, and strategy service line activities in the North American electricity market working for a wide range of clients – typically major financial investors, utilities, and regulatory bodies.
- Support all aspects of client engagement, such as helping identify issues, forming hypotheses, conducting analysis, synthesizing conclusions into recommendations, and presenting your work to clients
- Ability to work well with junior and senior team members is critical. Additionally, your ability to synthesize the data and analysis and succinctly deliver key insights and advice to clients is essential
- Support senior colleagues in commercial proposals and preparation of pitches
- Responsible for managing client projects - project manager role
Your profile
Required attributes
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, math/statistics, physics, economics, and finance
- At least 5 to 8 years of experience in energy consulting or industry or other advisory roles with a focus on electricity and natural gas markets covering the US and/or Canada
- Working experience in one or more of the following power markets: CAISO, ERCOT, NYISO, PJM, ISO-NE, SPP, MISO, Ontario, and Alberta
- Experience in working in at least two service lines, namely, strategy, transaction advisory, and market/commercial analysis
- Solid working knowledge of one or more of the following expertise areas – power and heat including renewables, energy storage, hydrogen/ammonia, CCS/CCUS, transmission networks, EV/mobility, and natural gas & LNG
- Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to effectively lead and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills to understand, analyze, interpret, and derive insight from complex quantitative data and information is essential
- Knowledge of U.S. power industry structures, policies, regulations, and market fundamentals
- Strong understanding of recent trends in conventional generation, renewables, energy storage, distributed generation, and transmission development
- Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas and concepts to clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Business travel may be required from time to time domestically and internationally but not to exceed 10% of the time
- Flexible work schedule with four (4) days per week in the local office
Desired Attributes
- MBA or Master's or Ph.D. degree preferred
- Possess a working knowledge of one or more commercial production cost models such as BID3, PLEXOS, PROMOD, Gridview, Aurora, GE MAPS, Dayzer etc.
- Experience developing and working with financial models will be a plus
- Familiarity with PowerBI or Tableau for data analysis, visualization, and dashboard development
- Experience using one or more scientific programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB will be a plus
