Senior Consultant, Business Intelligence, Korea

Role purpose

Our Business Intelligence teams work as trusted advisors to leading Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, private market investors and law firms across the region. We help our clients understand and manage a variety of business risks, enabling them to succeed in complex environments. Your work as a member of the team will include evaluating potential local partners and investments, mapping out sources of reputational and integrity risk and conducting investigations to help our clients respond to internal and external threats to their operations, including helping to resolve disputes.

Senior Consultants are responsible for scoping Due Diligence projects, managing complex business intelligence projects and producing clear, analytical and exceptionally well-written reports that effectively communicate findings to clients. They achieve this through strong project management and combining information provided by Researchers, Associate Consultants and Consultants with information obtained from interviews and their own analysis.

Role tasks and responsibilities

Project work

  • Act as Project Leader for multiple assignments consisting of complex or multi-jurisdictional tasks under overall supervision of a Client Manager, having close involvement in the development of reports’ findings, analysis and structure and managing all aspects of projects’ administration
  • Produce high-quality reports, including incorporating human intelligence into reports, conveying complex information in a confident, persuasive and accessible manner, and producing analysis that goes beyond stage 1 analysis to stage 2 (“so what?”) and if relevant stage 3 (“what next”)
  • Participate meaningfully in client calls/meetings, particularly when delivering the results of the reporting, but also when scoping potential work opportunities
  • Create project teams, set plans, deliverables and project budgets, ensure rigorous quality control and oversee delivery of service, and ensure project management best practice
  • Ensure projects are priced, structured and managed effectively to deliver on profit and within margin targets
  • Contribute to good cash flow by invoicing in a timely fashion and assisting in the invoicing and collection process

Marketing, business development and other activities

  • Produce proposals and lead on scoping discussions with clients, including confidently explaining Control Risks’ due diligence services and demonstrating strong understanding of key client groups and different buyer types
  • Produce thought leadership to support marketing and the sales process
  • Play a lead role in developing our network of subcontractors
  • Develop personal network within the organisation (internal clients and client account managers (M&P)), to both broaden own profile and expand the view of work outside own team and generate opportunities to participate in client meetings/calls

Mentoring

  • Mentor and develop team members (e.g. training Researchers and Associate Consultants in skills such as investigative research). Provide regular and honest feedback to project team members
  • Line manage one or more direct reports, taking responsibility for their performance management, including mentoring, objective setting and mid-year/end of year review. Provide regular and honest feedback

Requirements

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Professional experience in consulting / financial services / journalism / government / research-driven roles where the below skills can be evidenced in a work environment
  • Experience in using financial analysis and innovative ways to present complex data to inform the narrative about subject companies
  • Ability to eloquently express complex findings in English in a concise and analytical way
  • Ability to manage own time and that of others to meet multiple deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail, driven to resolve uncertainty and confusion
  • Passion for learning about businesses, and political and commercial trends
  • Confidence in briefing clients in English and or Korean
  • Collaborative approach to getting the task done

Preferred

  • Additional language ability in Japanese
  • Network of contacts in South Korea
  • Knowledge of the financial sector, and the research methodologies employed by private equity and hedge funds
  • Experience of project management
  • Experience of or exposure to ESG due diligence
  • Experience of data analytics or data visualisation

Qualifications and specialist skills

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (international relations, politics, economics, business, finance, journalism/communications, social sciences)
  • Expert knowledge of political, operational and commercial trends in South Korea
