Please note that this position is based in San Deigo, CA. Acadia's hybrid model requires this role to work in our office three days per week on average.

The Senior Compliance and Logistics Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of trade compliance and assisting with logistics and supply operations within the Acadia Supply Chain organization. Ensures that all import and export and international/global trade supply lanes of goods adhere to local and international trade regulations, internal global compliance policies, and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate compliance risks. This role involves staying up-to-date with global trade regulations, tariffs, and sanctions, and adhering to applicable laws to assess impact to Acadia global business.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Policy Management : Maintain organization trade compliance policies and procedures to ensure consistent adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with global trade regulations, tariffs, and sanctions imposed by various countries and ensure compliance with all applicable laws. Ensure the organization complies with international trade laws and regulations, including customs regulations,  export controls, and sanctions.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Oversee the preparation and maintenance of accurate documentation related to shipments, import and export activities, including customs declarations, export licenses, and shipping records such as commercial invoice, bills of lading, and certificates of origin.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in international/global trade, such as trade violations, fraud, or supply chain disruptions, and implement strategies to escalate and mitigate these risks avoiding fines and penalties.
  • Classification and Valuation: Ensure that products are accurately classified under the Harmonized System (HS) codes and valued correctly for customs purposes.
  • Trade Compliance Training: Establish a documented and auditable training curriculum/platform in conducting training programs for Supply Chain to enhance their understanding of trade laws and best practices.
  • Customs Broker Management: Assist coordinating shipments with customs brokers and external service providers to ensure timely customs clearance, delivery and compliance.
  • Supplier Management: Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure their compliance with trade regulations and company policies.
  • Audit and Reporting: As the subject matter expert, assist with regular audits, including valuation, classification, import taxes, and prepare and present detailed reports to senior management on trade compliance activities to support compliance efforts.
  • Liaison with Authorities: Serve as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact with customs authorities, regulatory agencies, and other relevant bodies.
  • Client Interaction: Work closely with compliance officers, brokers, vendors, Third party logistics managers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth shipment/logistics operations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the trade compliance function.
  • Logistics Operations: Support and coordinate shipments of Acadia commercial (GMP and non-GMP), non-commercial and clinical goods and key development (R&D) materials with Acadia managed carriers utilizing existing business processes, carrier portals and supply chain tools. Create shipping documents, customs invoices and other required logistics documents. Tracking and updating shipments utilizing Smartsheet and other business tools and following up with vendors to complete chain of custody paper works for shipments. Assist/participate in creation of key processes, Dashboards, flow diagrams and work instructions across key departments and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in Business, International Trade Compliance, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Targeting minimum of 5 years’ experience in trade compliance, customs brokerage and GMP pharmaceutical logistics or a related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. trade regulations, customs laws, and trade agreements
  • Strong experience developing and scaling critical supply chain processes (Create Flow diagrams, Dashboards and author Work Instructions)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience working with multiple contract service providers
  • Experience with GMP and temperature sensitive products
  • Strong analytical and computer skills required. Proficient in MS office tools including Smartsheet, Adobe functions and Powe Bi a plus
  • Strong negotiating skills and problem solving abilities
  • Strong attention to detail, process oriented, organizational and Good Documentation Practices skills
  • Ability to identify and understand what needs to be accomplished and able to drive activities independently
  • Ability to manage change in a dynamic environment
  • Skilled at creating a team environment that supports a common vision and ability to work cross functionally within multi-departmental teams within and without the organization
  • Proficiency at effectively prioritizing goals, assessing team capability, and coordinating resources to achieve those goals
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time both domestically and internationally
  • Certifications: Preferred (nice to have) certifications include - Certified Supply Chain Professional certification (CSCP); Import Export (International Trade) Certification; Six Sigma training; Certification in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD); Certified Export Compliance Officer (CECO), Certified International Trade Professional (CITP), or similar.

Physical Requirements

This role involves regular standing, walking, sitting, and the use of hands for handling or operating equipment. The employee may also need to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and maintain visual, verbal, and auditory communication in a standard office environment and while working independently from remote locations. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.  This position requires the ability to travel independently overnight and/or work after hours as required by travel schedules or business needs.

In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is also eligible for discretionary bonus and equity awards based on factors such as individual and organizational performance. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance, and location. 

Salary Range
$70,000$87,600 USD
