About You:

team in an Design and Certification role here at Merlin.

Responsibilities:

  • The role may be fulfilled remotely yet required to work in Kerikeri-New Zealand for significant periods of time throughout the project, and to travel (New Zealand and USA) in support of Merlin’s manufacturing, design and certification activities.
  • The Senior Certification Engineer will be responsible for both developing, and overseeing the development of, certification plans and compliance reports for the integration of Merlin products into fixed wing aircraft in support of CAANZ and FAA STCs.  The activity will include mechanical, electrical and avionic certification aspects, with direct liaison with the equipment OEMs, manufacturers and the aircraft installer through to involvement in ground and flight testing of the aircraft.
  • The role will be accountable for the delivery of certification reports in support of the CAANZ and FAA STCs, including liaison with regulators, Merlin in-house FAA DERs and experts in the US and supporting New Zealand 146 organisations.  The Senior Certification Engineer role will also be responsible for technical oversight, mentoring and guidance of internal and external engineers producing certification data, and the approval thereof.
  • Within the context of the Merlin NZ Ltd Part 146 the Senior Certification Engineer is anticipated to be eligible for CAANZ Design Delegate Holder and Statement of Compliance authorizations, and will provide technical leadership and oversight commensurate with these authorizations.
  • As the Merlin NZ organisation matures, it is anticipated that the role will benefit from training and technical progression within a CAANZ Part 146 Design Organisation.  Merlin takes pride in being an active and responsible member of the New Zealand aviation community; the role will include the opportunity to participate in Merlin’s wider involvement in the New Zealand aerospace sector, liaising with the national regulator and various aerospace industry groups and forums.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in a discipline applicable to Aerospace Design, or an equivalent level of competency achieved via work experience and professional development within the aviation industry.
  • 10+ years professional aviation experience or similar.
  • Previously granted, or eligible for, CAANZ Design Delegate Holder authorisation or equivalent (FAA DER, EASA CVE).
  • Proven expertise in Aircraft Certification and a detailed understanding of the regulatory requirements for commercial and military aircraft, specifically Part 23 and 25 aircraft.
  • A curious mindset and inquisitive approach to solving engineering problems, as well as an attention to detail and quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, remotely and as part of a team.

Nice to Haves:

  • Have previous experience working in a Part 146 Design Organisation, FAA ODA or EASA 21J.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the operating requirements for Part 91, 135 and 121 operations.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the requirements for Part 100 SMS.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the requirements for Part 145 Maintenance.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the requirements for Part 148 Manufacture.
  • Flight experience.
  • Experience in working with CAANZ, FAA, EASA or other National Regulators.
