Job purpose

Janes is seeking a UK based maritime analyst with knowledge in sonars, decoys, electronic warfare (EW) and command and control (C2) systems fitted onboard naval surface and subsurface platforms.

While a proven interest in the defence sphere is vital, specific training in the subject matter, tools and research skills will be provided to support the analyst joining our team. The role entails conduct of research and update Janes reference data covering key maritime defence systems from around the world. The analyst will take responsibility for ensuring the currency of our data, delivering high quality analysis and data for our global customers. The successful candidate will be working with a team of experienced subject matter experts based in the UK and India. Work will encompass primary research with industry and military experts, to create and maintain detailed open-source data, as well as create and deliver webinars and analytical articles for Janes global readership.

How you will contribute at Janes

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our data on in-service and developmental sonars, electronic warfare and command-and-control systems, working with a team of experienced subject matter experts based in the UK and India.
  • Work will encompass primary research with industry and military experts, to create and maintain detailed open-source data, as well as create and deliver webinars and analytical articles for Janes global readership.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of maritime C4ISR systems and a demonstrable interest in underwater warfare will be a strong advantage, but specific training in the subject matter, tools and research skills will be provided to support the analyst joining our team.
  • Experience of research and analysis, ideally in defence or a related engineering field are vital.
  • Successful candidates will be strong communicators with fluent written and spoken English skills, able to explain complex subjects in a clear and straightforward manner.
  • Janes analysts also need to be comfortable working with structured specifications and in data-rich environments.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are an asset, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
