Senior Business Intelligence Manager

Extracting insight from data is at the heart of our quest to serve our members, and we are looking for a hands-on leader for our Business Intelligence team so that we can provide accurate, timely and actionable insights to our Product Managers, Community leaders and executives. 

The Business Intelligence team at Raya works hand in hand with our Product, Design & Engineering groups during all phases of the Product lifecycle. Key areas include exploratory data analysis, validating candidate features and app changes to inform planning, specifying the parameters of A/B tests, and portraying the results of the tests and calling winners based on the recommended criteria.

Additionally, the team is responsible for identifying and communicating all trends throughout the business, from short-term aberrations due to app changes to longer-term drifts in user behavior or psychology.

The Business Intelligence team surfaces, visualizes and summarizes data in our front-end reporting tools (Mixpanel & Mode). The person in this role may choose to onboard a new front-end tool (e.g. Tableau or Looker) as our data usage matures, and will partner closely with engineering teams to make this possible.

Finally, the Manager will be responsible for managing the team of Analysts (currently two people, with potential to expand as our data needs grow). This includes scoping out work, committing to timelines for the completion of analytics deliverables, coaching and developing the Analysts, and functioning as the hiring manager to define and execute any future hiring processes for the team. As the leader of a small team the ideal candidate would thrive in an environment where they spend the majority of their time making individual contributions.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lead conversations with stakeholders to transform their goals into concrete metrics
  • Proactive manager who maintains a high bar and can attract and retain a great team
  • Good business instincts with an ability to prioritize their team’s work against the highest impact areas
  • Mastery of SQL
  • Basic understanding of Python and ability to manipulate data and create simple visualizations using pandas or other appropriate Python libraries
  • Familiarity with data transformation tools (e.g. dbt)
  • Detail orientation, and specifically an obsession with accuracy & correctness
  • Natural curiosity for exploring data. When a loose thread emerges, you’re inclined to pull on it
  • Clear, proactive communication
  • Accountability and delivery. When you commit to something, you always deliver.
  • This is a fully remote position. The company largely operates on West Coast time.
