Senior Bioinformatics Scientist

We are seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented, and collaborative individual to join our Bioinformatics and Analytics team as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist. This group is responsible for advancing Twist’s product lines through the strategic application of cutting-edge bioinformatics and computational approaches. In this role, you will leverage deep genomics expertise and computational skills to develop innovative solutions for complex biological data analysis. You will be responsible for advancing our bioinformatics capabilities while ensuring robust, scalable implementation of scientific workflows across the Bioinformatics Analytics portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop robust analytical frameworks to extract insights from large-scale biological datasets.
  • Design and implement scalable data analysis and bioinformatics pipelines for NGS data processing and interpretation.
  • Lead architectural decisions and execution for bioinformatics workflows and analytical systems.
  • Build predictive models and statistical analysis to support research initiatives and workflow development.
  • Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to translate biological requirements into data driven solutions.
  • Provide product teams with actionable insights and recommendations to advance/troubleshoot assays.
  • Drive continuous improvement in both scientific analysis methods and bioinformatics software development practices.

 

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Strong foundation in molecular biology, genomics, and NGS technologies.
  • Experience with biological sequence analysis algorithms and advanced statistical methods.
  • Proven track record of implementing data analysis workflows for large-scale genomic data.
  • Desire and ability to dig deeply through various data types to gain insights.
  • Understanding of current trends in data science and bioinformatics software architecture patterns and best practices.
  • Proficiency in software development using Python and associated biological computing libraries.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities and the ability to quickly acquire expertise in new topics on the fly 
  • Strong communication skills to present complex analyses to diverse stakeholders
  • Track record of leading cross-functional projects and balancing scientific rigor with practical solutions.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D./M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or related field with 5-7 years industry experience
  • Hands-on experience performing molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and protein expression, as well as developing and validating NGS QC assays.
  • Experience with modern data science frameworks and cloud computing platforms
  • Expertise in multiple programming languages (Python, Rust, C++, SQL/dbt)
  • Experience with large-scale data processing and analytics platforms such as databricks.

 

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.
San Francisco Bay Area Pay Range
$150,000$186,000 USD
