The Decisions Alliance's goal is to enable HelloFresh to build a rapid feedback loop around understanding our customers, finding the best way to communicate with them and utilizing AI/ML capabilities. We're responsible for the company's Communications, Customer Data, Experimentation, and MLOps Platforms. Our team works on a variety of technologies ranging from high throughout, real-time communications systems to deep statistical libraries to large-scale machine learning training pipelines. 

The role and the team

You will join a cross-functional team that ensures HelloFresh communicates with customers effectively. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, implement, and operate high-scale and fault-tolerant communication systems that can handle various types of messages like email, SMS, and push notifications.

Interacting with frontend engineers, mobile engineers, product managers and our teams around the world is very much part of our day-to-day, so communication skills are vital. We are looking for strong problem-solvers who can apply their engineering skills to a wide range of platforms and environments while also acting as an ambassador to coach team members and stakeholders.

What you’ll do

Work in a cross-functional team typically comprising 6-10 people using a wide range of technologies and frameworks. Your team will be a place where your thoughts and opinions matter and your contributions will have a tremendous impact on the team's success.

• Take ownership of the architecture, design, development, deployment, and operations of our microservices, using DevOps practices, pair programming, and other cutting-edge methodologies 
• Be an active, solution-oriented member of autonomous, cross-functional agile teams collaborating with product owners, frontend Engineers, data engineers, mobile engineers, and business intelligence teams
• Having an in-depth understanding of HelloFresh’s core product and architecture, acting as an ambassador for software solutions offering support and mentorship to colleagues
• Work with state-of-the-art technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, Spark, Kubernetes, Istio, and more

What you’ll bring

• Hands-on experience working with software development, design, and architecture
• Solid backend experience working with an event-driven microservices architecture using Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, Kafka, CQRS pattern, etc.
• Proficient in Golang, Python, and/or Kotlin
• Experience working with relational databases, like PostgreSQL, and object stores, like AWS S3
• Expertise in end-to-end development processes, including unit, integration & functional testing, application tuning/profiling, and continuous integration
• Demonstrable experience with agile methodologies, with a strong focus on delivery, lean thinking, and quick iterations
• You seek to continuously develop yourself and learn from your peers
• You thrive in the opportunity to collaborate and mentor team members, while also sharing practical knowledge and trends
• [Nice to have] Practical experience integrating marketing vendors like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Braze, and HubSpot
• [Nice to have] Familiarity with notification services like AWS SNS
