The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for assisting the Corporate Controller with the period-end closing tasks, Tax and Audit compliance, and strategic initiatives (including inventory management, commercial leasing, and FP&A activities). The right candidate will also have experience managing direct staff.
The major duties are to record, review and verify the accuracy of journal entries; analyze sales transactions and properly recognize revenue in accordance with GAAP; and produce standard reporting and monthly reconciliations that drive good financial processes. To succeed, the ideal candidate will have strong curiosity, intellectual horsepower, and good accounting intuition. They should have success dealing with ambiguity, establishing processes, and learning financial systems. The Senior Accounting Manager will oversee all aspects of revenue recognition and billing, payables, payroll, and treasury functions, will own the routine monthly close process, and be responsible for financial statement preparation, reporting, and analysis. The role will provide partnership/financial support to the cross-functional leaders of the Company including Operations, Marketing, and Engineering.
Role & Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain relationships with department coworkers, department heads and vendors to support invoice processing and issue resolution
- Process A/P invoices in NetSuite: verify proper approval; match to receipt of goods/services and to purchase order; ensure proper general ledger account, department and class coding
- Audit, verify and process expense reports using Expensify; handle T&E and Credit Card reconciliations
- Estimate and accrue outstanding liabilities at month-end
- Assist with preparation of financial reporting package
- Billing and cash posting; familiarity with ACH, Wires, and Positive Pay transactions
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations
- Research questions arising during financial statement close and review processes
- Provide documentation and support during annual financial statement audit
- Maintain department files and historical documents
- Prepare quarterly Sales & Use Tax Returns if needed
- Prepare annual IRS Forms 1099 and 1096 filings
- Record use tax on purchases if needed
- Update and maintain vendor database (this position will have no cash disbursement duties), including new vendor setup and applications for credit terms
- Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions
- Managing payroll processing through Paylocity
- Responsible for the Company’s budgeting and forecasting process.
- Retain constant awareness of the company’s financial position and act to prevent problems
- Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to be shared with management, the Board, and Investors, including preparation of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Responsible for ensuring tax compliance and regulatory compliance across international, state, and local jurisdictions (including income tax in the U.S. and Canada, property, sales and use, and other local taxes), insurance reports, and other reports required by government regulation
- Continue validation and maintenance of accounting and operations software system (ERP) to ensure accounting requirements are met.
- BS/BA in Accounting or Finance, related Master’s Degree or MBA a plus
- CPA a plus
- 5+ years of growing responsibility experience in accounting/finance preferably including experience in public accounting and in a med-tech or software environment
- People management experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience in ERP system use; preferably NetSuite. Must be an avid, self-driven learner!
- Strong technical experience using Excel, Pivot Tables, and other analytical tools to quickly validate and generate reporting on actuals and forecasts
- Other systems include Paylocity and Expensify
- Demonstrated ability to work with multiple departments to achieve organizational goals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent accounting and presentation skills (Excel, PowerPoint)
