About the Senior Accountant role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to play a foundational role in shaping‬ Float's financial reporting. This is a unique opportunity for an accounting professional to work at a company building tools that are transforming their day-to-day work. We are looking for someone that has a deep passion for everything accounting.

 

As the Senior Accountant at Float:

  • You’ll be responsible for building, executing and streamlining accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, payroll and financial reporting
  • You’ll coordinate and execute an effective, efficient and timely month-end close process, including ownership of the general ledger, preparation of variance analysis and other relevant reporting insights 
  • You’ll be responsible for developing and monitoring proper controls and reporting over financial operations
  • You’ll answering accounting inquiries in cross-functional teams 
  • You’ll develop processes for new product lines and financial reporting asks
  • You’ll be responsible for completion of tax and and audit compliance work
  • You’ll own all government compliance submissions (T4s, EHT, ITCs, SR&ED, etc.)

Requirements

A few must have experiences:

  • 3-4 years of experience in a Finance or Accounting role at a fast growing tech company, with a focus on accounting and financial reporting with Canadian ASPE accounting standards
  • CPA or demonstrated interest in obtaining the designation
  • Robust analytical, problem-solving, and process-improvement skills, coupled with proficiency in Google Sheets and Excel, including large data set manipulation
  • Strong attention to detail and can be relied upon to provide thorough, well-reasoned and accurate results
  • Able to work with a high degree of self-direction, along with the capability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate teamwork skills in a growing team

 

You’ll be great in this role if:

  • You’re an owner. You love producing reporting packages with your stamp of ownership on it. You take great satisfaction in answering questions from stakeholders that want to understand the details to a greater degree. You can even anticipate what the questions might be and prepare answers prior to being asked.
  • You understand the business context. You'll be more effective if you understand not just how to book the journal entry, but also why you're doing it - i.e., how will this impact the financial reporting and drive decisions.
  • You’re comfortable with a fast-paced environment. Float is a dynamic environment and things can change quickly. You should be flexible and able to adapt to changes as they occur.
  • You have spectacular attention to detail. You take pride in being thorough and accurate. You’re a stickler for detail and rarely miss important information required to complete a task.
  • You ruthlessly prioritize. You will have multiple responsibilities and projects. Being able to effectively manage your workload and meet deadlines is crucial.
  • You have the nice-to-haves. You have experience with our internal tools: Metabase, Float, Wagepoint, and Netsuite. You have worked on complex accounting topics like consolidation, foreign currency transactions and translations and deferred revenue.

  • You’re not keen on learning new things
  • You don’t have strong stakeholder management skills
  • You don’t like regular feedback on your work
