We are seeking a highly technical and experienced Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting to join our growing Accounting team. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, financial planning, regulatory compliance, and adherence to best practices in general ledger accounting. You will be responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, updating accounting memos and process control narratives, preparing financial and regulatory reports, monitoring debt covenants, and assisting with tax filings to help position Alto for future growth. Additionally, you will focus on complex accounting areas such as equity, debt, tax, and revenue recognition. As a key contributor, you will collaborate closely across departments to support strategic initiatives and provide valuable insights to management. This position will report to the Director of Financial Reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

Equity & Debt Accounting: Prepare and record journal entries related to complex transactions involving equity, debt, leases, and other financial instruments, ensuring accurate treatment under US GAAP.

Revenue Recognition: Ensure compliance with ASC 606 in recognizing revenue from new and recurring transactions, including analysis of significant contracts and business line expansions.

Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare comprehensive financial and regulatory reports, including SEC filings, with a focus on equity, debt, and recurring transactions. Collaborate with other teams to ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Assist in tax filings and reporting, ensuring timely submission of tax returns and accurate reporting of deferred tax positions. Coordinate and support the preparation of tax schedules.

Debt Covenant Monitoring: Monitor debt covenants, ensuring compliance and maintaining proper documentation to support lender requirements.

General Ledger Management: Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts, preparing accurate and complete journal entries and ensuring timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.

Internal Controls & Memos: Prepare and update detailed accounting memos and process control narratives, maintaining a clear audit trail for all complex transactions. Support the enhancement of internal controls and best practices.

Audit & External Reviews: Coordinate and manage audit requests related to year-end audits and tax filings. Serve as a primary contact for auditors, particularly in technical accounting areas.

Business Expansion Support: Evaluate and document the accounting impact of new business lines, significant contracts, and transactions. Provide technical accounting guidance for strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects.

Accounting Research: Stay current on GAAP and emerging accounting standards, performing technical research as needed to ensure compliance with changing regulations.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

Experience: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 4 years in public accounting, preferably with exposure to SEC reporting or technical accounting roles.

Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in US GAAP, with deep experience in equity accounting, debt accounting, tax, revenue recognition, and accounting for complex transactions.

Software: Experience with accounting software such as Sage Intacct or NetSuite. Advanced skills in GSuite, Excel, and other financial analysis tools.

Public Accounting Background: Experience in public accounting (e.g., Senior Accountant, Senior Auditor) with involvement in GAAP compliance and presenting findings to management is highly desirable.

CPA: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.

Analytical Skills: Strong ability to conduct flux analysis, identify trends and discrepancies, and propose effective solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven track record of working with multiple departments to provide financial insights and improve processes.

Start-up Experience: Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment is a plus.

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $132,000 - $165,000
Commission Eligible: No
Equity Eligible: Yes
Travel: Yes - Required up to 5% of the time. This would exclusively be for org on/off sites throughout the year as needed.
