The General Accounting Specialist role is within the General Ledger Accounting team based in Toronto Canada and is part of the wider Arcadis Global Onshore and Accounting Finance community.

This role will be part of the team responsible for standardized financial reporting, implementing, and maintaining an effective and efficient framework of operational general ledger accounting and statutory compliance with established company policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and local regulations.

Working in the General Accounting team, the role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely completion of accounting close activities for all Canadian entities that ultimately drive financial information and reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis. This role includes but is not limited to Onshore treasury operational activities and cash flow reporting.

The General Accounting Specialist will report directly to the General Accounting Specialist reports directly to the General Accounting Director.

This job is a temporary role for 8 months.

The main responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • The key player in the ERP Oracle migration project.
  • Complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely financial reporting
  • Perform more complex journal entries and reconciliations including consolidation activities.
  • Effectively collaborate with Global Business Area Finance Teams, Global Accounting Teams, and other cross-functional teams to ensure completeness and accuracy in transactions and close processes. Preparing monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other financial reports
  • Assist with the Audits.
  • Manage the intercompany accounting and reporting process, including inter- company invoicing, reconciliations, journal entries, and quarterly intercompany balance matching.
  • Provide technical support on current accounting standards (such as IFRS 16) and local statutory requirements that have an impact on accounting operation
  • Maintaining and monitoring schedules capital assets, IFRS 16 lease schedule, and FX reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with local legislation and other regulatory requirements
  • Managing internal and external audit requirements and engaging with key stakeholders as appropriate
  • Engaging in Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager and Arcadis.

The candidate should have:

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance with recognized professional accounting qualification (CPA or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting systems and process flows, preferably with Oracle ERP systems
  • Attention to detail, quick learner, deadline-driven, and ability to work independently when needed
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting standards and tax regulations
  • Experience in financial accounting, statutory reporting, General Ledger, and/or in a Shared Service environment is preferable
  • Knowledge and experience in an international and multi-currency environment
  • Oracle, OneStream ERP systems, and Excel high proficiency experience an advantage
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, organized
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, team player with a positive attitude

The Pay Range for this role is CAD 67,914 to 87,624
