Security Operations Purple Team Lead

What You Will Do and Learn

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Cybersecurity Purple Team Lead to join our organization. This challenging role offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on our organization's security posture while working with cutting-edge technologies and methodologies in the cybersecurity field. This role combines offensive and defensive cybersecurity expertise with incident management, compliance knowledge, and automation skills.

The ideal candidate will lead a team responsible for strengthening our organization's overall security posture through a holistic approach to cybersecurity. This role is a high-level individual performer who has matrixed leadership responsibilities and will over time have some direct management responsibilities. It is expected the person has had team management responsibilities in prior roles.

Ideal candidates will be able to:

  • Lead and coordinate purple team activities, including both red team (offensive) and blue team (defensive) operations to identify and address security vulnerabilities in our IT infrastructure.
  • Design, execute, and oversee simulated cyber attacks to test and improve our organization's security defenses and incident response capabilities.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive incident management strategies, including detection, response, and recovery processes. This includes hands-on incident responses (twice per month on average).
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 27001 standards and GDPR/Data Privacy regulations, conducting regular audits and assessments to maintain adherence.
  • Automate security processes and workflows using scripting languages and relevant tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness of security operations.
  • Administer, configure, and maintain various security tools and platforms used within the organization including our security awareness program.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement in cybersecurity practices.
  • Collaborate with other IT and business units to align security initiatives with overall organizational goals and objectives.
  • Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies, and implement appropriate measures to address evolving risks.
  • Prepare and deliver regular reports on security posture, incidents, and improvement recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with a strong background in both offensive and defensive security operations.
  • 2+ years of experience in Python, SQL, and experience with security automation tools.
  • Proven experience in incident management and response.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 27001 standards and GDPR/Data Privacy regulations.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and common security tools.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP (preferred), CEH, OSCP (preferred), or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
