Role Summary:

The ScrumMaster will be facilitative team member responsible for ensuring the Scrum team adheres to the defined processes and removes blocking issues. He/She should act as a coach for the team, helping them to achieve the best results possible. As the team’s process owner, ensure that the development processes are optimized and deliver consistent and robust results.

 

The ScrumMaster is expected do anything possible to help the team perform at their highest level, by removing any impediments, and facilitating meetings. Where impediments cannot be removed quickly, then they should escalate the matter appropriately to ensure rapid resolution.

 

The ScrumMaster will have the primary responsibility for ensuring that the Scrum team achieves the agreed sprint objectives with delivery of high quality, potentially shippable software. They should facilitate the sprint planning process and drive the team to maximize their output without over-committing. They should ensure that requirements (user stories) are fully defined and understood and that work estimates are accurate and achievable. They should monitor sprint progress at all times and take the necessary corrective action for successful delivery of the software, constantly looking for opportunities to increase the velocity of the team.

 

Qualification Criteria/Work Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 10 years industry experience with at least 3 years of experience working as Scrum Master on projects executed using Agile Scrum methodology.
  • Should have handled a scrum team of at least 7 team members or more.
  • A strong team player with the ability to understand team issues and to encourage and enforce strong working ethics within the team.
  • The ability to lead and motivate the team to fully adopt Scrum processes
  • The ability to build strong and effective working relationships with all key contributors to the project – the development team (including QA), the PO and/or BA and the management stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written) – working with team to ensure that everyone is aware of progress and key issues.
  • Ability to build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.
  • Be supportive and pro-active – ensure that all impediments to progress are dealt with quickly and effectively.
  • Assess the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
  • Is a self-starter with great attention to detail and follow through and who is resourceful and adept at managing through chaos to reach a goal
  • Strongly process driven with a desire to continuously improve development processes to increase team effectiveness and contribution.
  • Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach(example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc) 
  • Good hands on knowledge of MS Excel.

Desirable:

 

  • Hands on using Mingle or similar Agile tools.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
  • Work flexibility and imaginatively in a changing and evolving project environment.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing
  • Knowledge of Estimation (Planning Poker, Effort based)
  • Prior role in any lead capacity – Tech Lead / Team Lead
  • Knowledge and experience with server side technologies like Uniface and client side technologies JavaScript, EXT-JS.
  • Experience of working in offshore – onshore model.
  • Experience of working with European customers, if not British.


 

Overall Project/Task description

The ScrumMaster’s roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up, owning and upholding the process of Scrum and ensuring that it is correctly applied at all times.
  • Shielding the team from external interferences and removing identified impediments to enable the team to progress promptly and effectively, escalating to management and stakeholders in the event that impediments cannot be resolved and are likely to impact sprint progress.
  • Arranging and facilitating and all key Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, showcases and retrospectives, ensuring that agreed processes are followed and that the output from the ceremonies is accurately recorded and acted upon.
  • Ensuring that the internal structure and operation of the sprint is always optimized, working closely with the offshore team to maximize effectiveness.
  • always Encouraging and facilitating strong working relationships within the Scrum team and with stakeholders/management, ensuring that behavior is always professional and effective, dealing with or escalating any issues as appropriate.
  • Working with the Product Owner, Dev Mgr to ensure that the product backlog is well managed and that user stories are always available and well defined for upcoming sprints.
  • Ensuring regular and accurate communication with all stakeholders reporting accurately on project progress, issues and risks including the distribution of daily burn-down charts in accordance with agreed content and formats.
  • Ensuring that the productivity of the Scrum team is always maximized and avoiding ‘idle’ periods for any of the team members.
  • Focusing the Scrum team into a culture of continuous improvements and driving to increase the team’s velocity.
  • Collate dependencies from the team, raise them on Scrum of Scrums, track the progress on it, pro-actively identify potential impediments created by it and help the team to resolve or manage them.
  • Escalate any consistent non-compliance of the processes to Development/Project Managers.
