The Role

We are currently seeking a Scrum Master to join our delivery-focused team. In this role, you will join a small team of delivery focused Scrum Masters to support Scrum and Kanban squads across our department, working closely with Product Owners to ensure the successful delivery of projects and the continuous improvement of our Agile practices. As a Scrum Master, you will play a critical role in creating a collaborative and self-organizing environment that fosters high-quality product delivery and empowers our teams.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Educates the team and company on how to use Scrum/Agile practices
  • Encourages self organisation and works towards teams becoming self sufficient
  • Has knowledge of the Scrum guide content as well as information not located in the guide and the ability to apply it practically
  • Assesses the maturity of both the team and company and coaches to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organisation
  • Working with the Product Owners to increase ownership and maturity levels as well as backlog grooming/maintenance & dependency management
  • Encouraging the team to proactively remove impediments and stepping in to help when they can’t
  • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged; with an emphasis on problem solving & team unity
  • Facilitating getting work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  • Tracking retrospective actions and ensuring that they get completed as part of continuous improvement
  • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
  • Can adapt to shifting circumstances while maintaining stability
  • Ensure delivery remains on track by pointing out issues and holding the teams to account

Requirements

  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least one year for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory. In the case of low maturity levels then positive team development trajectory should be shown as well as an understanding of blockers to increased maturity
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Knowledge and experience of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the gaps left in the Scrum approach (eg: Multiple burndown techniques, Retro formats, bug handling approaches, sprint disruption strategies etc)
  • Comfortable working on multiple Scrum teams simultaneously
  • Kanban / ScrumBan knowledge
