We are looking for an innovative Scientist in Molecular Biology to join our Research and Development SynBio team. The successful candidate will create novel solutions to evolving market needs utilizing the world-class DNA synthesis, assembly and NGS tools internally available at Twist. The ideal candidate has strong technical fundamental knowledge in NGS, synthetic biology, protein engineering or a related field with a strong publication record to support that.  This is an on-site position in our South San Francisco headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead novel research projects by designing and performing experiments and analyzing subsequent data.
  • Perform ad hoc experiments and analyses.
  • Coalesce abstract concepts into tangible goals and outcomes.
  • Document experimental results, communicate data and outcome to stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on relevant scientific literature, trends and products.

Qualifications And Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or a M.S with 5+ years of experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or closely-related fields. 
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA purification and quantification, PCR/qPCR, Molecular cloning, Enzymatic assays and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in protein science - from expression construct design,  and purification to characterization and optimization. 
  • High attention to detail around determining complex experimental strategies including experimental design, execution, analysis, troubleshooting and review of new methods to facilitate product concept development
  • Strong scientific intuition and common sense
  • Good work ethic with a “can-do” mentality and attitude for approaching challenging questions.
  • Dynamic interpersonal skills. Respectful and open to others’ views; contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  • Self-motivated, willing to learn and be up-to-date on current scientific literature or new research developments

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with high-throughput protein engineering is a plus.
  • Experience with various NGS library preparation techniques and hands-on experience using NGS sequencing platforms. Experience with illumina and ONT long-read technologies preferred.
  • Experience with genome alignment, variant calling, annotation.
  • Experience with in-vitro transcription and post transcriptional RNA modifications
  • Programming experience (ideally Python) for manipulating and analyzing large datasets.

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.
San Francisco Bay Area Pay Range
$118,800$140,000 USD
