Sanctions Operations Lead for Square.  You will need to be an experienced and motivated OFAC/sanctions professional, who is able to manage a sanctions operations team and program. They need to identify and mitigate sanctions risk across the organization, manage screening rules, analyze data, and implement creative solutions.  You will lead Square’s Sanctions Operations team, and collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Program and Product managers, Engineering teams, and the Global Sanctions team to ensure Square’s Sanctions program complies with all applicable laws and regulations across all jurisdictions.  You will need to have strong OFAC regulatory knowledge, effective program and people management, and strong data analytics and documentation skills.  You will also support the Global Sanctions team in the OFAC Regulatory Reporting process. 

You Will:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of Square’s Sanctions program by managing a team of in-house Sanctions analysts, and providing oversight and guidance to AMLRS, while ensuring strict adherence to policies and procedures, and making recommendations to improve operational efficiencies.

  • Manage the analysts who are responsible for decisioning sanctions alerts in a timely and effective manner, provide guidance, and make final decisions on case escalations from the analysts.

  • Work with other Compliance teams and the Global Sanction team to guide strategic planning on team growth, organizational structure, focus areas, and goals.

  • Help guide increased performance of sanction screening controls, including through automation and machine learning, and make recommendations for potential control gaps to enhance or change existing controls and/or determine when new controls are necessary.

  • Conduct reviews and prepare responses to regulatory requests, audits, and exams, and help maintain the watchlists and keywords sanctions lists, maintain OFAC/sanctions-related documentation for audit, regulatory and supervisory reviews.

  • Collaborate with Program Managers to maintain and enhance policies and procedures, ensure operational procedures align with the policies, and develop best practices within existing workflows to improve and add operational efficiencies. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional Engineering and Product teams to develop technical specifications for tool enhancements

  • Remain current with sanctions laws and regulations including OFAC and EU sanctions and other important regulatory guidance in order to assess ongoing sanctions risks

You Have:

  • 5+ years in a senior OFAC/sanctions compliance role with experience in international markets

  • 5+ years people management experience 

  • Strong operational knowledge in building and running a sanctions operations program, with expert knowledge of OFAC and relevant sanctions regulatory requirements 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Bachelor's Degree

Nice to have:

  • ACAMS Certification (or equivalent)

    • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS)

    • Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS)

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $135,300 - USD $202,800
Zone B: USD $125,800 - USD $188,600
Zone C: USD $119,000 - USD $178,400
Zone D: USD $108,200 - USD $162,200
