SUMMARY:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Hachette Book Group Children’s Sales Team, selling to Barnes & Noble. This highly visible role will be responsible for maximizing sales of our titles across multiple imprints, developing relationships with key stakeholders, assisting in the development of marketing and promotional programs, and communicating account information to as it relates to appropriate imprints. The position will report into the Executive Director of Children’s Sales. This is a NYC-based opportunity, with a hybrid office working schedule (two in-office days a week.)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a key salesperson to Barnes and Noble across multiple wholly owned and client children’s imprints.
- Sell frontlist, backlist, and seasonal promotions to B&N and work with internal Hachette Book Group departments to forecast all stock needs.
- Generate weekly reports and apply analytical skills to pinpoint key sales priorities, forecast market conditions, and realize potential new sources of revenue growth.
- Organize and lead key title and sales presentations to B&N, highlighting priorities and opportunities.
- Work with advertising, marketing, and publicity staff to develop B&N-specific marketing campaigns for appropriate titles and authors.
- Maintain B&N estimates and orders in HBG systems.
- Participate fully and offer market feedback in seasonal go-to-market meetings, including Strategy and Sales Conference.
- Respond to inquiries from both publisher and account contacts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Proven sales leader with strong sales background in trade publishing.
- Ideal candidate must have at least 3 year’s experience with a major national account.
- Must be extremely organized, detail-oriented, and can multi-task and prioritize.
- Effective communication skills (oral & written), good judgment, and excellent interpersonal skills in all aspects of business.
- Administratively efficient and flexible.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be results driven and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed.
- Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow up and follow through.
- Drives change and innovation by improving work product or process, and challenges established norms where appropriate.
- Demonstrates success building supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization; takes the lead in inspiring others to work together for mutual benefit.

The compensation range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
