We have a current opening for a Safety Director with flexibility to be located any one of our four regional offices: Sacramento, Long Beach, Bay Area, Dallas (TX).
We are seeking a Safety Director who will ensure the safety practices of our employees and be an integral part of the leadership team. This candidate will have experience in leading initiatives, setting and achieving goals, and developing policies and programs that reflect the industry’s best standards.
Requirements
Advance the Company Safety Culture
- Advance the company safety culture using influence and key relationships.
- Build trust with field employees so they know safety is a resource for planning and executing work safely.
- Collaborate with superintendents to anticipate upcoming project needs and provide support and knowledge to the project teams.
- Create strategies with PX’s/VP’s to continuously improve safety culture and implement new initiatives as needed.
- Build relationships with client safety managers to positively impact safety on projects and areas around our field crews.
- Create annual safety business plan to proactively plan initiatives, annual training, safety budgets, vendor relationships, and efficient supply of safety equipment to job sites.
- Create monthly dashboard of safety metrics and status of initiative implementation to provide insight on safety trends.
Ensure Safety Policies
- Ensure company safety policies are a valuable resource to field operations.
- Evaluate and update existing policies for compliance and relevance to safety regulations.
- Create streamlined resources that apply specifically to the company’s work, that are easy for field employees to access and utilize on the job sites.
- Provide training to field teams on accessing and using the resources and technology.
- Create tools and train on HCSS Safety for streamlined field reporting and gathering of useful safety data.
- Develop process for documenting and enforcing safety policies for consistency and accountability.
- Stay current with OSHA and other legally required reports
Promote Collaboration
- Promote safety department collaboration with field operations.
- Collaborate with various departments to coordinate and review safety procedures.
- Implement department field visits. Assessing safe practices on job site. Coach safety team and field teams on safety culture.
- Coach on safe practices and PPE
- Create feedback mechanisms to communicate with PX’s/VP’s and Superintendents about findings on the projects and coach as necessary.
- Participate in Job Startup meetings
- Create safety plans, review customers’ safety manuals and develop job specific emergency plans.
- Perform crisis management after major incidents or events if needed
Safety Training
- Proactively provide training for the safety department
- Review JHA’s and provide training and feedback as necessary
- NFPA 70E training
- OSHA/Cal-OSHA updates
- Involvement with ASSE/AGC/Summit for continuing education and networking
- Ensure safety team is assessing current certifications prior to work being performed
- Update Royal training resources as needed.
- Coordinate vendors for training as needed.
- Develop and implement an incentive program to promote good safety behavior.
- Be a resource for claims as needed
Required Skills, Experience, Education & Abilities
- 10 to 15 years of experience in a safety manager or director level role.
- Education: High school diploma minimum, bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, safety engineering or related field preferred.
- Certifications and licenses: Preferred, but not required STSC, SHST, ASP, CSP
- Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other safety regulations
- Experience with health and safety management systems
- Good problem-solving skills and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, leadership and organizations skills
- Able to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Participate in Royal Leadership Team meetings quarterly.
- Has some knowledge of competitors' strengths and weaknesses as well as an understanding of unique aspects of market sector trends and influences.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, with an ability to deal with people with an outward mindset.
Salary Range:
- $150,000/year to $170,000/year
- This is an exempt position
