Designing and developing innovative mechanical designs, feasibility analysis, materials selection, and performing engineering calculations. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet project requirements and are manufacturable. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining accurate design documentation and staying up to date with industry trends.
Your key focus will be:
- Design and develop: Create innovative mechanical designs for products, components, or systems using CAD software and engineering best practices.
- Feasibility analysis: Evaluate the feasibility of design ideas and concepts based on factors such as cost, manufacturing limitations, and material properties.
- Materials selection: Select appropriate materials for mechanical systems and components based on factors such as strength, weight, durability, and cost.
- Engineering calculations: Perform complex engineering calculations, such as stress analysis, thermal analysis, and rotodynamics to optimise designs and ensure the reliability and safety of mechanical systems.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams: Work closely with other engineers, technicians, and manufacturing personnel to ensure that designs are manufacturable and meet project requirements.
- Documentation and communication: Create and maintain accurate design documentation, specifications, and design reports. Communicate design concepts and technical information to colleagues and stakeholders.
- Continuous improvement: Stay up to date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the design process.
Requirements
Is this the job for me?
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have a combination of the below knowledge, skills and experience:
° Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Master’s degree in same preferred.
° Experience in rotating equipment design and development.
° Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
° Strong understanding of engineering calculations, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and rotodynamics.
° Experience in materials selection and manufacturing processes.
° Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
° Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
° Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to rotating equipment.
