Robotics Mechanical Engineer - US Project

Full-Time
Telexistence develops remote controlled robots with artificial intelligence, with the mission to change robots, change the structure, and change the world. Gathered by high expertise professionals from all over the world, the engineering team consistently develops robotic hardware, software and AI technology in-house. TX aims to expand the scope of robotics activities beyond the factory floor and transform the fundamental nature of labor society.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing our robots for the mass production phase. Our robots will be deployed into retail shopfronts, therefore they will need to withstand daily use in real-life environments (as opposed to pure R&D use).

Responsibilities

  • In a small team of engineers (5-10), lead design initiatives of reliable robots that are scalable, cost effective and manufacturable.
  • Define functional specifications based on business and operational requirements.
  • Lead the mechanical design to meet the requirements.
  • Develop assembly processes and tooling for assembly.
  • Plan and conduct QA for successful deployment.
  • Select optimal actuator (DC motors, stepping motors, air cylinders, etc) and power transmission mechanism (gears, timing belts, links, etc.) that meet the specifications.
  • Take a leading role in the transition from design to production and provide continued support to production throughout the volume ramp and beyond.
  • Work with other members of the engineering and operation teams to ensure that products are developed to meet all performance and quality standards in a timely manner.
  • Maintain detailed BoMs and BoMs cost. Work closely with vendors on negotiating specs to meet cost requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience in design, development and manufacturing of reliable, high tolerance hardware products.
  • Experience in robotic manipulators and/or designing actuators is a big plus.
  • Ability to find an optimal and realistic mechanical design solution under tight time constraint.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Hands-on experience in evaluating and extracting hardware issues and making necessary changes for improvement.
  • Hands-on experiences in transitioning a newly developed product from design to manufacturing and ability to design detailed hardware specs at the mass production level.
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving and goal oriented environment where everyone works autonomously without much handholding.
  • Ability to communicate either in Japanese or in English.

Position Location will be at Telexistence's Headquarters Office (Heiwajima, Ota-ku, Tokyo) or another location designated by the company.

The role assignment may be modified based on organizational requirements. This could include changes to your job responsibilities, reporting structure, or team assignment.
