About this job
Our coffee production team members do an incredible job of preparing and packaging all the delicious coffee delivered to our guests and digital subscribers. We’re looking for a Roastery Team Lead with a sharp attention to detail to help bring delicious Blue Bottle Coffee to guests
You will:
- Ensure our coffee production is fully completed and shipped each day through communication with our team members and guiding our production progresses throughout the day.
- Train production team members on all packaging tasks using our approved training content, and on-the-job training. Cross-training all team members on packaging processes.
- Help lead a team of talented craftspeople and dedicated production team members. Your systemic improvements will ease your team’s workload and bring clarity to increasingly complex scenarios.
- Measure production performance to identify Key Performance Indicators and help devise a strategy towards continuous improvement.
- Oversee our processing equipment calibration and maintenance schedule, ensuring our equipment is always in top performance to meet our production output needs.
- Create SOPs (standard operating procedures) and best practices for achieving consistency in all of our production processes.
- Collaborate with production leadership to strategize and create plans that will prepare and support our team through seasons of increased production output and new product releases.
- Maintain opening/closing checklists and logs, perform daily team huddles, and communicate and troubleshoot any production setbacks.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of production supplies. Updating inventory low-level reorder points, and re-order quantities for production items as necessary.
- Collaborate with all members of the coffee production team, professionally, respectfully and with integrity.
- Advocate for the craft of coffee roasting through observation, instruction and committed study.
- Roast every batch of coffee with meticulous attention to timing, temperature and progress.
- Support the business with extensive note taking; so that we can accurately detail batch history and coffee metrics.
- Engage in the sensory analysis of our roasted coffee; with intention toward continuous improvement, day to day, week to week, and month to month.
- Possess a thorough understanding of how to safely and responsibly use all coffee roasting equipment.
- Maintain and clean our equipment diligently, ensuring it’s in top form for all of our needs.
- Support all food safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices rules and regulations.
- Engage with each step of the coffee production process with the intention of developing a thorough understanding of our coffee roasting, packaging and shipping procedures.

You have:
- A deep love and respect for delicious coffee, food, exceptional guest experiences, your work, and your team.
- Working knowledge of basic hardware and tools.
- Understanding of the many facets of coffee quality.
- Understanding of the basic concepts of coffee roasting.
- The ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
- Basic math skills.
- Comfort using online tools including Microsoft Suite and Google Suite.
