Roastery Operations Manager / Lead Coffee Roaster

Our roasting and cold brew facility, collectively referred to as “The Roastery,” is where our coffee begins its journey from green coffee bean to amazing roasted coffee or cold brew and our Roastery Operations Manager (ROM) is the person behind the magic. The ROM is responsible for the daily operations of The Roastery, including, but not limited to, coffee production, facility maintenance/organization, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interviews, selects, and trains top talent with the goal of creating a world-class production team 
  • Sets high standards, communicates expectations, and coaches for improvement
  • Identifies and leverages individual strengths and assists team members with developing their areas of opportunity
  • Develops and implements an ongoing training program for all team members
  • Identifies and develops high-potential team members; participates in succession planning
  • Partners and collaborates with key stakeholders throughout the company
  • Oversees the production, packaging, and storage of roasted coffee and cold brew products
  • Coordinates with the finance team to ensure adequate stock of coffee products to meet sales forecasts
  • Audits product quality using all available tools, including outside laboratories, and course corrects, when necessary
  • Is responsible for record keeping including roast/brew logs, roasted coffee profile logs, time/temperature curve, and roast data logs 
  • Identifies risks and develops and implements comprehensive food and occupational safety programs within the roastery
  • Maintains appropriate stock of green coffee, ingredients, and supplies to ensure uninterrupted production of product
  • Is responsible for the maintenance of all equipment including the roaster, bagging equipment, and forktruck
  • Is responsible for the organization, maintenance, and cleanliness of all production and non-production areas, including offsite storage. 
  • Is responsible for the management and reduction of controllable waste as part of the coffee production process
  • Ensures proper inventory control through the use of inventory management system and other forms of record keeping

Required Skills and Abilities

  • A positive mental attitude and outlook on life. A friendly and genuine personality is a must!
  • Experience as a Head Roaster or equivalent role for at least two years, with proven and consistent results. 
  • 5+ years working in a coffee production environment preferred.
  • Commitment and ability to work independently and proactively are vital. Must maintain a comfortable and fair work environment.
  • The ability to collaborate with peers and leaders across the organization.
