Vast is looking for a Risk Manager, reporting to the Senior Director, Flight Safety & Mission Assurance, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. As a Risk Manager at Vast, within the Flight Safety and Mission Assurance organization, you will help pave the way for safe, reliable, and repeatable access to space. You will work in a fast-paced engineering environment, engaging with engineers to identify, manage, and reduce risk, and ultimately increase the probability of mission success. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a risk processes across the organization
- Assess and communicate technical risks to executive leadership and external stakeholders
- Ensure risk process achieves outcome of increasing probability of mission success while documenting risk informed decisions
- Prioritize actions to burn down highest risks and maintain an acceptable risk posture going into major tests and operations
- Assess risk landscape for identification of potential trends and recommend corrective actions
- Take ownership of the development of risk management tools to help it better serve our teams
- Mentor our engineering organization on best practices for risk identification and management
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials engineering, mathematics, physics, or related technical discipline
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fluid schematics, and electrical circuit diagrams
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information to non-technical partners
- Ability to form relationships with experts from varying engineering fields and provide constructive feedback
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience throughout the engineering lifecycle (design, build, operations, sustainment, and decommission)
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, particularly in the context of spaceflight applications
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
- Specific certifications, as appropriate
Pay Range :
- Risk Manager I: $80,000 - $110,000
- Risk Manager II: $100,000 - $140,000
- Senior Risk Manager: $135,000 - $170,000
- Staff Risk Manager: $160,000 - $200,000
