RF Hardware Engineer

Tomorrow.io’s Space & Sensors team is responsible for the development of unique RF-based sensing systems, such as radar and sonar, from architecture through implementation. The team is also responsible for the development of corresponding spacecraft and constellations in support of Tomorrow.io’s Operation Tomorrow Space, which will collect data to be integrated seamlessly into our existing forecasting and modeling systems, revolutionizing global weather intelligence.

We’re looking for a RF Hardware Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and validation of RF systems for space and airborne applications. As a RF hardware engineer at Tomorrow.io you’ll lead internal and external resources to complete subsystem development and deployment. The individual must be able to work in a highly collaborative environment. Management of subcontracts and relationships with external vendors is often required. Experience with space and airborne systems development and qualification is desired.

What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with mechanical, digital hardware, software, and system engineers within small engineering design teams.
  • Develop and document hardware requirements and specifications of analog and RF hardware and systems.
  • Design, simulate, document, implement, and test new designs.
  • Schematic design and PCB layout for analog and RF designs up through microwave and millimeter wave frequencies.
  • Work with board houses and vendors to coordinate fabrication and assembly of new designs.
  • Work with test engineers and technicians to develop and document test and assembly plans.
  • Participate in field measurements and deployments of our RADAR and radiometer systems.

What you bring:

  • B.S. degree in electrical engineering or related discipline with 8+ years experience in RF and analog design; or M.S. degree in electrical engineering or related discipline with 6+ years in RF and analog design. Experience leading a small engineering team or mentoring more junior engineers.Experience with RF circuit design (schematic design and PCB layout) and simulations.
  • Familiar with RADAR systems and RADAR waveform design.
  • Experience in RF and analog circuit modeling, design and prototyping from HF through X-band and desired through Ka-band or higher.
  • Understanding of best practices to reduce EMI in PCB level and system level design.
  • Experience in RF frequency planning and propagation.
  • Experience with link budgets analysis to support system design trades.
  • Experience using design tools such as ADS/Genesys, Matlab, C/C++, and Python.
  • Hands-on lab experience with radar and analog hardware including testing, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using specialized RF equipment: vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, and noise figure meters
