Retailer Business Development Manager

Key Activities

  1. Sales planning: Develop sales plan for new business pipeline, building meaningful client relationships, and ultimately closing deals having two main focus – one being a true sales “hunter” to drive revenue and the other as a relationship builder of clients
  2. Sales campaign: Plan local sales campaigns, drive cadence to rally white spots / long tail client development with wider team in market and measure sales from new business at weekly / monthly basis. Champion global and regional sales campaigns within market and drive sales excellence locally
  3. Sales lead and pipeline: Generate sales contacts/leads and develop relationships on a daily basis for sales proposal and pipeline building. Collaborate with Industry leaders for sales proposals and constantly work with client value proposition and rejections to win sales deals (measuring win/loss rate, sales cycle, learning for next pitch)
  4. Sales pitch: Work closely and collaborate with designated Industry / Solution leaders throughout the sales cycles along
  5. Sales closure: Driving deals to successful outcomes across sales phases in a timely manner (no direct reports)
  6. Understanding of client’s business priorities and issues : Have a clear understanding of client pain-points and value proposition – how we can help the clients
  7. Analysis and story-telling: Provide thought leadership, both internally and externally, to grow GfK’s capacity of engaging with clients
  8. Industry point of view: Have a deep understanding of technology consumer goods and be on top of analysis to tell the story to clients for next growth. Champion market webinar and point of view, incl. LinkedIn promotions
  9. Product ideation: Generate new product ideas and bring the voice of the customer back for next product development (with a view on profitability and feasibility)
  10. Salesforce expert: Be the Salesforce expert locally and help develop pipeline development and tracking for entire portfolio driving sales incl. Salesforce best practice adoption in market
  11. GfK Platform expertise: be competent (working level expert) over GSE, and gfknewron platform
  12. Sales Ops: Champion sales administration, contract management excellence and collaborate with Finance for Sales compliance
  13. Critical Soft skills: High energy, resilient, excellent in collaboration, organized in tasks and knows how to engage with senior to mid-level stakeholders internally/externally   

Skills required:

  1. Standard office packs, GfK systems (willingness to learn), Salesforce and previous sales experience in data/analytics/enterprises (experience in retail/brand background).
  2. True Sales hunter with a balanced view on data analytics/macro-market understanding.
  3. Passionate about clients and well organized (do not forget about internal compliance, sales admin tasks)
  4. Excellent networking, sales and negotiation skills.
  5. Digitally savvy, and keen to maintain GfK brand and point of view at major social networks (i.e. LinkedIn). Scout for opportunities in industry speaking/seminars.
  6. Must have great soft skills to be able to relate to different retailer segments and their top contacts. Being street-smart and able to hustle when needed.
  7. Must be fluent in both written and spoken English 

Typical Education and Work Experience required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a Business field
  2. Minimum 8-12 years working experience, preferably in Sales, Client / Account Management or in the Marketing and Merchandising responsibilities within the Tech & Durables Retail Industry.
  3. Prior experience in Retailing of lifestyle or consumer durable products
