Control Risks has been working with some of Italy’s largest companies and government agencies for decades. We have recently obtained a license for investigations and commercial information and are opening an office in Milan, with a view to strengthen our presence on the ground and expand the range of services we provide in the country. As part of our expansion in Italy, Control Risks is seeking a dynamic, curious and driven individual to join us as Researcher or Associate Consultant in our team conducting business intelligence and investigations in Italy. You will be a critical thinker with good communication skills, with an interest in business transactions, operations and politics. In this role you will investigate, evaluate and interpret both open source and human intelligence information in the context of due diligence, complex corporate investigations and problem-solving assignments.

Investigative case management

  • Execute a range of business intelligence and compliance projects including pre-investment business intelligence and due diligence, background checks, ESG DD, market entry studies, asset identification, litigation support, problem solving and power mapping.
  • Manage the entire research and analysis component of projects, and support project management, from initial client request to proposal drafting, acceptance, delivery and invoicing.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their requirements and ensure that our proposals deliver solutions tailored to those needs.
  • Support the maintenance of our human source network and expand it by cultivating contacts.
  • Ensure the delivery of projects on budget, scope and deadline.
  • Brief and present findings, in writing, verbally and through charts and diagrams, to internal and external clients.

Business, practice and solution development

  • Take an active part in developing Control Risks' client base in Italy, seeking to both maintain existing relationships and develop new ones with decision makers. Facilitate, where appropriate, the introduction and provision of additional Control Risks’ services.
  • Support account managers on business development initiatives such as attending conferences, client meetings and briefings.
  • Actively participate in profile-raising and brand awareness activities in the context of Control Risks’ expansion in Italy, including marketing and networking initiatives and events.
  • Seek opportunities to be improve our current methodologies, including through the application of new technology, innovation, approaches, resources and sources.

Requirements

  • Previous professional experience, ideally within the business intelligence, compliance and investigations industry.
  • Experience of conducting research and analysis for due diligence projects and presenting findings to clients.
  • An understanding of the country’s political and commercial environment and demonstrated understanding of business trends and challenges in Italy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to due diligence and compliance, with basic knowledge of research techniques, databases, networks, online registers and archives, and research in the general internet.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Education to Master’s degree.
  • Professional fluency in English and Italian; an additional European language is preferred.
  • Ability to understand, summarise and present large amounts of information.
