Research Manager

The Research Manager will be an integral part of a world-class engineering & research team pushing the boundaries of computer vision and machine learning. You will work directly with the Chief Research Officer and Key Team Leaders to establish and communicate initiatives, projects, milestones, and resource needs. This role will act as a liaison between Research, Technology teams, Project leaders, and other key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a development team which generally consists of Research Team Members; Research Scientists, Engineers and Interns
  • Establish and document milestones, metrics, and schedules for research initiatives
  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide management escalation, project prioritization, make tradeoffs, balance the needs versus technical constraints, and promote initial partner deployments
  • Host daily stand-up meetings in the PST time zone and ensure the team is following procedure for work prioritization
  • Focus on the immediate team and identify team issues, and suggest solutions related to execution goals. Identify task-related processes to improve efficiency
  • Ensure each project setup meets the specifications of the studio with regular status reporting and capacity plan updates
  • Establish engagement processes to ensure all workflows are clearly defined, processes are documented, and staff are trained in expectations
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and engineering teams to facilitate integration of research results into the content production workflow
  • Assist researchers in the preparation of research papers for submission to top-tier conferences in computer vision and computer graphics
  • Managing professional development plans and conduct regular one-on-ones with direct reports

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Project Management or Project Lead Experience with production lifecycles, processes and project planning
  • Experience working with expansive teams, mediation and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated advanced work experience in research management, technology development, product management, project management, and academic publications
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable public speaking, talking through solutions and distilling information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a Scrum/ Agile software development environment (Jira, Confluence, Google Sheet Automations, and Miro)
  • Self-directed, proactive, detailed, organized and solution-oriented
  • Experience with formal communications, publishing reports or partner facing documentation is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • A strong understanding of computer imaging technology and workflows
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; able to take ownership, and thrive with minimal oversight
