What You Will Contribute To Altos

The Research Associate will work within the Innovation Hubs (Core facilities) at Altos Labs Institute of Science, Cambridge, and will report to a Hub Lead within Scientific Operations. The Altos Innovation Hubs provide critical technical and scientific support in cutting-edge core technologies to aid the research of the scientific groups in their advancement of the mission.   The Research Associate must be adaptable to novel and evolving processes, be willing to learn new laboratory skills and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with dynamic needs. Initially, the Research Associate will focus on providing support to Flow Cytometry or Histology operations. There may be evolving opportunities to work with other Hubs such as Cell Models, Multi-omics, In Vivo Models and Light Microscopy, gaining new knowledge and skills as required by research needs.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will be responsible for:

  • Hands-on technical support within the Innovation Hubs, using established and optimizing new workflows
  • Independent operation of specialized equipment, ensuring the equipment is maintained and troubleshooting when issues occur
  • Training scientists in hub techniques and use of equipment
  • Undertake sample tracking, data entry and data management within the hubs, ensuring accurate electronic records are kept.
  • Ordering of hub consumables and reagent stocks
  • Developing standard operating procedures and risk assessment in collaboration with Hub Lead
  • Assisting with research operations within Hubs like Flow Cytometry, Histology or other Hub’s dependent on skills and business needs.
  • Reviews research activities to determine where new information, methods, or collaborations could positively impact projects and improve efficiency of processes
  • Serve as point person and schedule coordinator for highly specialized pieces of scientific equipment
  • Coordinate with and provide assistance to other hubs as required

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Biology, Biomedical science or related field
  • Previous experience in a biological/medical/pharmaceutical research setting
  • Experience and skills using Flow cytometry and/or Histology techniques
  • Experience supporting scientists within a team or core enviro
  • Capable of managing lab projects, and ability to clearly follow instructions, keeping to timelines and agreed outcomes.
  • Experience with basic molecular and cellular biology with an ability to perform experiments acutely and reproducibly.
  • Be an excellent team player and excited about collaborating.
  • Strong communication skills, with proven ability to work as part of a diverse team.
  • Ability to multitask and work across projects and groups with flexibility to react to changing priorities
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High level of computer literacy and ability to maintain an electronic lab notebook.
  • Experience with cell culture, Genomics library preps, light microscopy, tissue dissections and/or other molecular biology techniques desirable.

 

The salary range for Cambridge, UK:

  • Research Associate I: £30,600 - £41,400
  • Research Associate II: £35,700 - £48,300
  • Senior Research Associate: £49,300 - £66,700

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
